The 2047 Daily Keg - Week 16
07/29/2047
(AP)
California moves back into the top spot with a 5-1 week that included a sweep of the Seattle Pilots and taking two of three from Baltimore. The big winner this week though were the Windy City Blues who went 6-1. Other nice weeks were the Dinos and the Millers with 5-2 records each. The other end of the spectrum saw Carolina, Seattle, and Santo Domingo all pick up just one win.

Performance of the Week
SP – Alec Stotts – On a day when Andre Ulleri threw a complete game shutout, Alec Stotts was actually a little better as he threw a solid 8.1 innings against a trade riddled SDR. In the gem, Stotts only allowed 5 hits, allowed 0 walks, and stuck out 13. It was the second time in as many weeks that the Montreal hurler threw a game that landed inside the Top 30 performances of the season.
Injury of the Week
P Cole Stone – In a week that had quite a few injuries to some of the league’s best teams, Phoenix was dealt the hardest blow. RP Cole Stone was working his way through a clean pitching performance and in the process of running his record to a perfect 4-0 when he heard something pop in his lower back. The oft injured reliever was once a very promising 8th overall pick, but injuries continue to be the biggest part of his baseball story unfortunately.
Prospect of the Week
P Hayden ‘Jailhouse’ Watkins – The 12th overall pick in the 2046 is still in Rookie Ball, but is wowing opponents with his high 90s fastball. He’s striking out almost a batter an inning. At only 18 years old, and his high work ethic, high intelligence combo have scouts thinking that the you left hander just may be a solid #2 starter for Philadelphia in 4 or 5 seasons.
Five Things We Think We Think
1. Seattle has had a trade block up for some time and rumours are circulating that a big name might be on the move. Unsure wether a godfather offer for Tavin Kang would get him out of Seattle, or on the pitching side a similar deal may indeed be the one to get a team to land Norm Aouita.
2. Hard to believe, but we have two players that could go into the 50/50 club this year. Colby Hullinger is a household name and is currently pacing for 50 HR and 63 SB. Stuart Beale, a relative newcomer in comparison, is hot on his trail. He’s only on pace for 46 home runs and 64 stolen bases. It should be fun to watch these two down the stretch!
3. A couple of old guys made big news this week. 3B Dawson Davis became just the 85th player in BLB history to tally 800 extra base hits. LF Tom Stark was even better as he became just the 44th player to capture 900 extra base hits!
4. The standings have started to really shake out the last couple of weeks and it looks like the IL payoff teams may already be set with 60 games to go. Denver has a 4 games lead over Batavia for the 4th and final wild card spot. Over in the DL, it appears to be a lot closer as Dallas has the first Wild Card spot locked up, and Pittsburgh, Wilmington, Syracuse, and Montreal are fighting for the last three spots.
5. Once again this week JD Rice tormented California Kodiak fans. If you’ve not heard, the Kodiaks were up in the draft in with the 4th overall pick in 2029 and were deliberating between JD Rice and Ed King…. Well, Ed King and his 0.3 Career War went to the Kodiaks and JD Rice and his 3 Stout Sluggers, 10 all star appearances, and 7 Designated Drivers went to Baltimore. Why do we bring this up? This week while holding an insurmountable 3 run lead, with Satchel Ramirez on the mound, Rice once again reminded Kodiak fans what they missed out on, when he crushed a 3 run home run in an eventual come from behind 9-7 win!
