  • The 2047 Daily Keg - Week 9

    06/10/2047

The Pawtucket rebound continues as the Patriots go 6-1 which included a four game sweep of Montreal. They are now 19-9 over the last month, and lead the Stout by 1.5 games after struggling at the start of the season. California also continued their dominance as they went 6-1 and have already built a nine game lead in the Bock. They are now 12-2 since their GM had to be talked back in off the ledge, and one of those losses was in extra innings. On the other side of life Indy and Hartford went 0-7, while New York and Montreal went 1-6.

    Performance of the Week

P Porter Snyder - The 7th overall pick of the 2031 draft by Batavia never really lived up to expectations. He's always been steady though, and with 140 career wins he is a solid mid-rotation guy. On June 5th against Dallas though he turned in the #1 performance of the season in a 17-0 drubbing of the Drillers. He pitched a one-hit shutout that featured seven K's, one walk, and the only hit was a Halden Berger double in the sixth inning. On the season Snyder is now 3-5 with a 4.27 ERA, 1.10 WHIP, and 95 ERA+.

    Prospect of the Week

P Tod Steffen - The 20 year old was a 7th round find by LAD in 2043 and is currently the 71st overall prospect in the league. At 6'7 he throws a 96 mph fastball that appears even faster, a sinker, and he's developing a change-up. Scouts think he has the ability to eventually start, but if not he could be a really solid arm in the pen.

Five Things We Think We Think

    1. We had our first fight of the year as the Carolina Tobs and Denver Bulls squared off both on diamond and with each other on June 6th. After Zander Howard smashed a three run shot off of Logan Meier, Meier beaned Grant Hockensmith in the next at bat. The 6'4, 210 lb Hockensmith charged the 5'9, 175 lb Meier and the fight was on. After it was finally broken up both players were ejected and the league office later ruled that Meier would be taking a six game unpaid vacation, while Hockensmith would be off for five.

    2. We wrote about Colby 'Mirror' Hullinger last week, so he rewarded us by hitting .333 with 2 HR's, 10 RBI's, and 6 stolen bases for the week. He's on pace for a 12.8 WAR, the 50/50 club, and at this rate is a lock to win his third Stout Slugger. To say he rebounded from last seasons 4.3 WAR would be an understatement.

    3. One person we don't talk about as much anymore is Richie 'Powder' van Luik. The 31 year old set the career stolen base record last season, has already swiped 24 bases this year, and is only 31 years old. He now has 758 career stolen bases, 81 more than second place, and 111 more than 35 year old Erwijn 'Moriarity' de Jong who's up next on the active list. Who's behind de Jong, how about 40 year old Oscar D'Addona at 487. There is a possibility that 'Powder' reaches 1000 and will put this record so far out of reach it will become 'unbreakable'.

    4. Phoenix is hanging in there and is adding some parts for a wildcard run, but management has to be asking if Jae'Sean 'Flamethrower' Ismael can please stop giving up home runs? He's given up 17 on the year, tying him for for first (or last) with Maine's Kaleb Philips. Last season in 32 starts 'Flamethrower' gave up 21, so 17 in 12 starts isn't ideal. Reports are that he's angry with his performance...well he should be.

    5. What's on tap? Interleague is and we got some great match-ups. The top billing belongs to none other than California at Pawtucket. The Patriots are hot, the Kodiaks are the best team in the league, both teams lead their respective divisions...what's not to love? We also get a nice series with Wilmington traveling to Washington. The Clowns are chugging along even after the SEI to Josiah Foust, and are eight games over .500. The Bats are also eight games over .500 and lead the Bulldogs by a half game in the Stout. Streak wise the Whalers have lost eight in a row, Pawtucket has won five in a row, Neel 'Tracer' Benarrivo has hit safely in 21 games, Satchel 'Crayon' Ramirez has converted 20 straight saves, and Christian Vines hasn't lost in 11 straight starts.
