We thought last week was full of W's...this week had even more at the top. The Washington 'Defending Champ' Bats got back on track with a 6-1 week that included a four game sweep over Denver, while California, Indianapolis, Wilmington, and Philly all went 5-1. Throw in New Orleans who went 5-2 and a quarter of the league had five or more wins. On the other side of the pillow we had eleven teams with two wins or less...the less being Denver who went 1-6. We still believe though Bulls fans, mama said there would be weeks like this.

Performance of the Week
P John Phelps - On May 4th against Batavia he turned in the #1 pitching performance of the season when he tossed a 2-hit shutout with 8 K's and no walks during an 8-0 LAD victory. Phelps is 25, was the Dinos first round pick in 2042, and is 3-1 with a 2.78 ERA in five starts this season.
Prospect of the Week
P Henry 'Stump' Doerrer - The rich get richer as 'Stump' was a 6th round pick by Dallas in 2042 before being traded to Washington in the Reger 'Domino' Zuniga deal in 2043. He's now 96th on the Top Prospect list and scouts love his potential stuff and control. The only problem is coaches are constantly after him due to his poor work ethic. Hard work without talent is a shame, but talent without hard work is a tragedy.
Five Things We Think We Think
1. Congrats to Pat 'Baja' Arballo who on May 3rd against Pittsburgh tied the Brewers League Baseball all-time win record of 286 held by Fernando Hernandez. Arballo was drafted in 2022, and at the age of 41 he's still going strong with his devastating knuckleball. Originally drafted by Death Valley, he was traded to Washington in 2024 where he won 152 games and was a 2x Pale Ale and 2032 BLB champion. He then signed with Toronto in 2036 for $145m where he won 104 games and another Pale Ale. Since then he's played for Philly and Syracuse before being traded to Dallas last month. He will look to set the record this week against Wilmington on the road.
2. The baseball gods giveth then taketh away. On May 1st shortstop Josiah Foust of the Clowns had five hits, including three doubles, and drove in two during a 14-4 victory over the Snappers. Two days later in a game against Toronto he singled in the fourth inning to get on base. Wyatt Tedders then hit into a fielders choice and there was a hard slide into second where shortstop Dane Jennings was waiting. Foust was called out and stayed on the ground for an extended time. He hobbled off the field with the trainers help and was immediately taken into the back. X-rays later showed he had a broken kneecap and would miss the rest of the season. A brutal injury for an up and coming star and a franchise that was looking to win the Ale this season.
3. There is still hope in Clownville though as Seth Cobb is 4-0 with a 2.25 ERA and 1.00 WHIP in five starts this season. In those five starts he has notched a quality start in all of them, and his run support a game is a ridiculous 7.0. You know who wants some of those runs, Snappers starter Benny Gray. Poor Benny has had six starts this season, is 1-3 with a 6.35 ERA, and has a RSG of 0.7.
4. It's not often you give yourself the L but Toronto's Dave Massey did that on April 29th against Montreal. In a game that went 18 innings, Massey came in and got the last out of the 17th inning. In the 18th he had two outs and a runner on third with Joel Staelens up to bat. Staelens hit a soft grounder back up the middle and Massey went to grab it and stumbled. In the process of trying to right himself he fell down and then crawled to the ball. He picked it up and wildly threw a ball that even 6'6 first basemen Rich Larrimore couldn't grab. Staelens was safe at first and Traevis 'High Roller' van Dijk scored to end the game. Massey got both the error and the loss, and could only shake his head as he walked off the field.
5. What's on tap? In the Import we have New York at Batavia. The 15-10 first place Knights try to keep showing they are for real, while Batavia has crawled out of a 1-6 hole to start the season and is back over .500. Who will be the king of New York? In the Domestic we get Dallas at Wilmington. The Clowns are first in the DL in OBP, SLG, OPS and walks...but we're watching to see how they recover from the loss of Foust. Meanwhile Dallas is set to get back Cy Rocha to their already impressive rotation...that is currently 4th in the DL in runs allowed. Streak wise the Bulls have lost six in a row, while Cali, Wilmington, and Washington have won five in a row. Also don't forget to tune in to see if Arballo can set the all-time career win record.
