  • The 2047 Daily Keg - Week 3

    04/29/2047

The BLB was handing out W's all week long to a lot of teams as California, Pawtucket, Denver, Dallas, Batavia, and Seattle all went 5-2. The Kodiaks maintain their strangle hold on the PR as NO, NY, and LAD battle for the second spot. On the other side of life Windy City got blown around and went 1-6 while Maine and Washington were 2-5.

    Performance of the Week

P Elijah Hugie - The undrafted FA signed by Seattle back in 2039 is now in his third season in the BLB. On April 27th against Washington he turned in the #2 performance of the season with a five hit shutout of the Bats with 11 K's and only one walk. The 24 year old is 1-0 on the season with a 2.92 ERA, 1.26 WHIP and 145 in ERA+ in four starts.

    Prospect of the Week

RF Ahkello Rodriguez - A first round pick by California in 2041 he was traded to New Orleans a little over a month later in the Elmer Caceres deal. He won the 2043 RL Outstanding Hitter award, the 2045 A ball Platinum Stick, and he's now the 89th overall prospect in the league. This season he's hitting .356 with 3 HR's and 10 RBI's in 11 games.

Five Things We Think We Think

    1. Goodness to Stuart Beale. The 24 year old swiped seven more bases this week to give him 13 on the season...in 13 attempts. He also added three HR's and 6 RBI's while hitting .444. Beale is leading the league in stolen bases and is on pace for 105 SB's and 41 HR's. Do we have a 40/100 club?

    2. Just when we didn't call him superhuman anymore Christian Vines tosses an eight inning, no run, nine K performance against Santo Domingo in a 1-0 victory. On the season Vines is now 3-1 with a 1.47 ERA, 0.95 WHIP, and 282 ERA+ in five starts. He leads the league with 42 K's (10 more than 2nd place), and is one pace for a 9.3 WAR.

    3. J.D. 'Hurricane' Rice seemed to find his power stroke again as he's already hit eight bombs this season, putting him on pace for 68. Last season he only hit 28 and many wondered if the 34 year old was as the beginning of the end. We doubt Rice will hit 60 more home runs this season, but if he did that would give him 612 for his career. That number should ring a bell since it's currently the all-time record held by Jaime O'Hearn.

    4. The Kodiaks are usually a defensive team and their +7.9 ZR is fourth in the league. Toronto is third at +8.6 while the usual non-defensive Tobs are second at +9.1. Who is first, how about those 12-7 Dinos who are at an amazing +16.2 ZR already. Zion Hilker is one of the best second basemen in the league, Preston Capps had adjusted to a DWI level at third, while Landon Tolleson has turned into one of the best defensive first basemen in the league.

    5. What's on tap? How about in the Import California at Denver. The Kodiaks are cruising to another division title and playoff appearance, while people want to know if the 12-8 Bulls are for real. In the Domestic we get Dallas at New Orleans, then Dallas at Pittsburgh. The Drillers are 12-8 and a fan favorite to win it all. Can they pull it off without Robert Jessee though? Meanwhile New Orleans is looking like the 2045 Brewmaster Cup champion Voodoo while Pittsburgh is tied atop the Ale for now. Streak wise Pawtucket's closer Charlie Guevin hasn't blown a save in 35 chances while LAD's starter Cole Socia has won nine consecutive games.

In your defence Paul…it was part of the Caceres deal. Not like you cast him off or anything.
