  • 2047 Season Preview - "Shavermetrics"

It's time for another season of BLB baseball! 2047 promises to be an exciting year, so what better time than now to bring back the BLB's foremost rating system, "Shavermetrics"? Will the numbers be kind to your team, proving the Spring optimism is well founded? Or will they provide a cold dose of reality?

Remember, it's just math. Cold, hard, math.

    2047 Preseason Ratings
    Team Rank Rating
    Dallas Drillers 1 83.99
    Pawtucket Patriots 2 81.92
    Pittsburgh Millers 3 77.59
    Washington Bats 4 75.55
    Wilmington Clowns 5 75.22
    Los Angeles Dinos 6 69.55
    Seattle Pilots 7 69.10
    Montreal Exports 8 65.69
    New Orleans Voodoo 9 63.85
    Batavia Red Jackets 10 61.39
    New York Knights 11 58.83
Santo Domingo Rum Runners 12 57.00
    Windy City Blues 13 56.67
    Phoenix Roadrunners 14 56.15
    Baltimore Bulldogs 15 55.86
    Syracuse Snappers 16 52.61
    California Kodiaks 17 50.99
    Philadelphia Freedom 18 46.22
    Maine Guides 19 45.56
    Denver Bulls 20 43.84
    Carolina Tobs 21 43.75
    Toronto Canadians 22 43.34
    Indianapolis Racers 23 36.49
    Hartford Whalers 24 35.94
Editor's Note - The ratings above are simply the result of painstaking calculations based on the current strength of the BLB's 24 organizations. They do not necessarily reflect the opinion of the author of this piece.

There you have it - the Dallas Drillers are the best team in the BLB as we head into 2047. They're coming off a tough loss in the DLCS to the Montreal Exports, but the numbers say that they are the team to beat, and the odds on favorite to bring home the Brew this season. However, they face a tough task to capture that elusive title, as 4 of the top 5 teams in the league are in the Domestic, and the Patriots are hot on their heels in the ratings.

Over in the IL, the three-time defending champs, the Washington Bats, enter the season solidly ahead in the ratings. The Los Angeles Dinos have been one of the darlings of the offseason, and the Metrics reflect their strength after acquiring Preston Capps and Marco Taylor. Meanwhile, last season's top seed in the IL, the California Kodiaks, have fallen significantly in the ratings. They've made the playoffs 12 straight seasons, but face a tough task to make it a lucky 13.

    Thoughts on this year's calculations?

They seem about right. The Kodiak roster is starting to feel very stale. We’ve also gone heavy on experience, and expensive experience at that. Dallas, is absolutely the most well constructed team.

        Well done Liquid!

I'd say Pawtucket is a top 5 team, but I also expect to not come out of the gate running like the past seasons (Despite what the HTLM says). Its year 3 of trying to win the division and its never easy. Strange things begin to happen (Injuries, stale roster, ect)

Speaking of, I really need to be "ok" with not winning the division. This seems to be major flaw with our team construction. While winning the Ale 20 times is kind of cool, 4 wildcards is unacceptable especially with the 2 division league.

In short, just get in the playoffs and be ok with it.

When it came time to calculate a score for Denver's pitching, the machine bogged down for several hours and began to smoke. I was worried the entire project may have to be scrapped.

I think the Metrics sell the Kodiaks short. Too much pitching to be a bad team, and I think the lineup has some questions but should at least be ok. If these were my ratings, and not simply the results of the formula, I would have California much higher. But, alas, the Metrics are what they are.
