Go Dogs Go...as the Baltimore Bulldogs go 6-0 last week to move within two games of the final wildcard spot in the Import. Do they have the late season magic that they had last season, this time without J.D. Rice? The other top week was Pittsburgh who went 6-0 to move back into the Domestic wildcard race. They are now second and trail Syracuse by a game for the first spot. Throw in Seattle who went 6-1 to move up to the second wildcard spot in the Import, and Montreal, Windy City, and Pawtucket who all went 5-1, and it was a week of shuffling.

Performance of the Week
CF Tavin Kang - The 24 year old has turned into the best centerfielder in the game and showed why yesterday when he smashed three home runs against Batavia in a 6-0 victory. He accounted for every run in the game and is now hitting .257 with 28 HR's and 80 RBI's on the season. The former 6th overall pick of the 2039 draft has also posted a +3.2 ZR in center and hasn't even reached his prime yet. A scary thought for Import pitches.
Prospect of the Week
C Ty Wiersma - In the AA divisional series match-up with Eagle River (Bat), Wiersma crushed three home runs in the deciding game and led the Venom to the LCS with an 8-6 victory. The former 5th round pick by Pawtucket in 2040 was traded to Indy before being released in 2045 and signing with Washington. Scouts love his work ethic and power potential and think he could be a starting catcher in the BLB someday.
Five Things We Think We Think
1. We can't even keep up with the playoff races this year and every week brings a new set of wildcard participants. This week in the Domestic it's Syracuse, Pittsburgh, Wilmington and Dallas...with New Orleans, Santo Domingo, and Maine on the outside looking in. In the Import it's Washington, Seattle, and New York with LAD and Windy City tied for the fourth spot. Then we have Baltimore, Philly, and Phoenix just one, two and three games back respectively.
2. In the minor league playoffs we have the Rookie Cup between Norfolk (Wil) and Boise (WC) tied at one a piece, with the deciding game today. Meanwhile in AAA, AA, and A we are down to the final four with only one game played so far. It's time to see how the next BLB stars perform in the crunch.
3. Derek 'Headgame' Bohlmann of Maine had the sixth cycle of the year in the BLB against Montreal on September 22nd. True the game did go 17 innings but we'll still count it. The last time the BLB had six cycles in a season was 2030. Who said players in the BLB can't hit anymore!
4. Baltimore signed reliever Andy Phillips to a nice four year extension this past week that will pay him almost $30m over that time. Phillips, the former 1.1 of the 2040 draft, is 6-2 with 6 saves, a 1.64 ERA and 1.00 WHIP in 126 innings pitched this season. He also has 194 strikeouts, which is one off the record by Marco Rosaro for most strikeouts in a season by a reliever. Baltimore acquired the first overall pick in a trade which sent slugger Dominique Graham to Syracuse.
5. What's on tap? How about Washington at Batavia for a three game series that could make the Stout division race very interesting. The Bats are 7-2 against the Red Jackets this season and only trail them by four games for the division lead. Washington closes out the week by traveling to California to face the Kodiaks, who they are 1-6 against this season. Will Cali be resting some starters or will they be doing their darnedest to give Washington a tougher road in the playoffs? Considering they have lost 10 straight playoff games to the Bats we figure they go pedal to the metal.
