The final interleague match-up of the season belongs to the Washington Bats who went 5-1 with a sweep of Hartford while taking two of three from Toronto. The other teams who managed to put up a winning record were Baltimore, New Orleans, LAD, Philly, Maine and Syracuse. On the other side Hartford, Phoenix, and Denver all went 1-5. The Road Runners and Bulls had a great summer run but it appears their playoff train has derailed.

Performance of the Week
P Powell Meinema - The 26 year old from Aruba signed with the Racers back in 2036 and is already in his 6th season in the BLB. He's never posted a winning record but he throws six pitches and can hit 101 on the radar gun. This past week on September 8th against Windy City he tossed a two-hit shutout where he struck out six and only walked one. He allowed one of those hits to the opening batter of the game, then a double in the third...and that was it. The Racers won 5-0 and Meinema is now 8-15 with a 4.10 ERA on the season.
Prospect of the Week
LF Amonte Raper - Drafted in the 2nd round of the 2042 draft by Phoenix, he was traded to Toronto after the season in 2043. He's now the 97th overall prospect in the league but looks like he has the talent to be a potential All-Star. This season in AA he hit .360/.408/.516 with 13 HR's and 79 RBI's while playing 120 games in left field. Scouts love his ability to get the bat on the ball and he very rarely strikes out. Look for him to be playing in the BLB by next season.
Five Things We Think We Think
1. The playoffs are here...well at least for the minor leagues. The Rookie League is already in the Divisional Series, while A, AA, and AAA all start the Wildcard round this week. In AAA the Flushing Chiefs had the best record in the league at 73-47, in AA it was the Calgary Cowboys who were 78-42, and in A ball the Barre Grays went 74-46. Yes those Barre Grays!
2. Montreal's Traevis 'High Roller' van Dijk went cycling this week against Phoenix, the fourth cycle we've had this season in the BLB. It's the most we've had since 2040 when five players accomplished the feat. Have players remembered how to hit again? Well the ones in the Domestic have as they are currently at .271 for the season...which is also the highest since 2040 as well. In the Import they check in at .253 which is quite a bit behind, but at least better than last seasons .238.
3. Phoenix's season may be going off the rails but at least they found a money tree growing outside their team offices. This past week they had another big contract extension as Neel 'Tracer' Benarrivo signed a five year deal worth $100,000,000. 'Tracer' won the Brewmasters Cup in 2044 with Montreal but was not offered arbitration and became a free agent. He missed the entire 2044 playoffs after tearing his labrum but was picked up by Toronto in the off-season. He was traded to Phoenix during the next season and this year is hitting .293/.351/.493 with 18 HR's and 64 RBI's. He hasn't been to the All-Star game since 2044, and he's known to be injury prone, so the fans (and management) will be holding their breath on this one.
4. The Domestic wildcard picture is still about as clear as mud. Pawtucket, Montreal, and Syracuse appear to be close to locks. The other three spots will fall between Pittsburgh, Dallas, New Orleans, Santo Domingo, Wilmington, and Maine. By our count that means four pretty solid teams will be on the outside looking in. In the Import we have Batavia, Washington, and California as locks, with Seattle, New York, LAD, Philly, and Windy City fighting for the remaining three spots.
5. What's on tap for this week? How about multiple series that might help unmuddle the wildcard races. Philly at Washington, Pittsburgh at Wilmington, Dallas at Syracuse, Batavia at New York, and New Orleans at Montreal. Winning streak wise the Bats have the longest in the league at four games, while Mat Washburn of the Dinos has the longest hitting streak at 13 games.
