Philadelphia rejoices with a 6-0 week as the Freedom shoot up to 10th in the PR and close to within a half game of the final wildcard spot in the Import. It's almost like Christmas in August for the fans. After a flurry of trades and roster shuffling by the GM has the team started to glue? The other nice week was had by Pittsburgh who went 5-2 and moved back into a Domestic wildcard spot. On the flip side Carolina went 1-5 as their slide continues while Phoenix went 2-5 and saw their wildcard stock tumble.

Performance of the Week
P Jae'Sean 'Flamethrower' Ismael - It seems like yesterday that Phoenix was calling him up to the bigs, now he's 27 and forms the 1-2 punch with 27 year old Cade Hogan. On August 26th against Batavia 'Flamethrower' turned in the 12th best performance of the season when he pitched a 3-hit shutout against the Red Jackets while striking out eight and walking only one. On the season Ismael is 8-12 with a 3.75 ERA, 1.21 WHIP, and 108 ERA+.
Prospect of the Week
3B Peyton Schranz - The 24 year old was a 4th round pick by Toronto back in 2043 and has worked his way up to AA. This past week he belted three home runs in a game against Bloomington and on the season he's now hitting .282/.380/.543 with 25 HR's and 79 RBI's. He won the 2042 NCAA title with UCLA and the 2044 Rookie Cup with Niagara Falls, so he brings a winning attitude to the organization. He also is a leader in the clubhouse and sets the example with his strong work ethic. Look for him to be in the BLB as soon as 2047.
Five Things We Think We Think
1. The wildcard races just got a lot closer, especially with the Freedom's 6-0 week. In the Import, LAD and Phoenix are tied for the last spot, with Philly only a half game back and Windy City and Denver both within easy striking distance. In the Domestic we have Syracuse, SDR, New Orleans, Pittsburgh, Wilmington, and Dallas fighting for four spots, with Maine only five back.
2. Denver slugger Chase Bartell now leads the BLB with 33 home runs, not bad for a guy picked 122nd overall back in 2038. He's now won the Batter of the Month for June, the Rookie of the Month for July, and just won his second Player of the Week for the season. On the year he's hitting .281/.352/.563 with 33 HR's and 85 RBI's. At 6'7, 210 pounds he can't run or field, but he can sure generate some bat speed with those long arms.
3. Derek Bell got rocked this week and saw his ERA shoot up to 2.26 for the season, which allowed Christian Vines to pass him up with his 2.02 ERA in his quest for a second Triple Crown. Unfortunately for Vines there is Patriots rookie starter Jaylen Ridley who threw an eight inning shutout last week and moved his ERA down to 1.88. Ridley was found by Carolina scouts, released, signed a contract with Seattle, released, and then signed a contract with Pawtucket. At 24 years old he's been the Patriots best pitcher this season where he's 9-4 with a 1.88 ERA and 0.96 WHIP.
4. The Wilmington 'oof' continues as the Clowns are now 8-15 in August and 19-29 since July 1st. Their hitting has seemed to have left them, especially for Jayson Buenaventura who was leading the league in average, home runs, and RBI's back in May. Now in the month of August he's hitting .155 with 2 HR's and 2 RBI's. That just won't cut it as ace Seth 'Icebox' Cobb has posted a 3.34 ERA in five starts this month but has a 1-3 record. No one is looking forward to the calendar flip to September more than Wilmington.
5. Only in Washington does Mr. Irrelevant make his debut in the BLB with a six inning, one run, five K performance and get a win against one of the top teams in the Import. On August 21st against Batavia the last pick of the 10th round of the 2039 draft, Sean Drury, did just that. The scout report on him says "Drury never shows any lack of effort and is intelligent on and off the field. He gets along with everyone." Sounds like a winning combination to us. We wish him luck in his BLB career.
