  • The 2046 Daily Keg - Week 13

    07/09/2046

And just like that Batavia takes back over the top spot in the PR with a 5-1 week. The Red Jackets now have the best record in the league at 52-31 and a four game lead over New York. Speaking of those Knights they went 5-2 to pass up Washington as they are now 13 games over .500. Toronto and California round out the other 5-2 weeks while Baltimore went 1-6 and Phoenix went 1-5. Is the fire sale back on for the Roadrunners...only time will tell.

    Performance of the Week

LF Jimmy Jeffs - At 40 years old JJ still has the power as he went yard three times on July 3rd against Seattle during a 16-9 California victory. He homered in the 3rd, 4th, and 8th, drove in six, and scored four times on the day. For the season he's hitting .311 with 14 HR's and 36 RBI's. Originally the seventh overall pick by Seattle in 2026 he turned into an 8x All-Star with a career line of .317/.358/.498 and 363 HR's.

    Prospect of the Week

CF LaTrivis Chojnacki - Discovered in Poland by Indy scouts he's now the 84th overall prospect in the league. The 22 year old is in AAA and has made a name for himself with his glove and blazing speed. He can play both center and short at DWI levels and has swiped 24 bases in 68 games so far this season.

Windy City keeps trying to tell everyone they are rebuilding but then they keep on winning. This game was a wild one from the start when Philly opened the game with a triple, then hit a a double and three singles during the rest of the 1st inning to jump out to a 3-0 lead. In the top of the 2nd Freedom centerfielder Greg Sumner hit a two-run home run and the route was on. The Blues didn't give up though. In the 5th Lafayette Collazo hit a double which scored Brian Pace, and Seth Donna came up next and smacked one into the right field bleachers. Still up 5-3 the Freedom were unable to add any more runs and in the 8th the Blues struck again. Back to back solo shots by Donna and Shaun Petruska and suddenly we were tied. Once again Philly couldn't score in the 9th or 10th and Windy City came up to bat again. Alex Lezama singled and then made it to third on a single by Ajani 'Divine' Walker where he beat the throw. Freedom pitcher Saul Wang then threw the next pitch into the dirt and past the catcher. Lezama raced home and slid in with the walk-off wild pitch while Wang got his seventh loss of the season.

Five Things We Think We Think

    1. Seth 'Icebox' Cobb got paid this past week to the tune of $154,000,000 over seven years, the just reward for helping lead New Orleans to become Brewmasters Cup champions last season. Just turning 29 years old he should be the anchor of the staff and combined with Nathan McKelvey and Martin Hoffman could lead the Voodoo to several more Cups before it's all said and done. He's currently the 13th ranked pitcher in the league, with McKelvey, Hoffman, and Erik Foley actually ranked above him. How many top 15 pitchers does a team need?

    2. Apparently only three as breaking news out of New Orleans have reports that Cobb is getting shipped to Wilmington for several 1st round draft picks. With Foley making nearly $30m and all-star shortstop Colby Hullinger making $34m there apparently just wasn't enough cash to go around. As for the Clowns they get another ace to pair with Aman Djorovic, and with only $82m on the books next season they can take on Cobb's salary and still have some wiggle room remaining.

    3. We didn't cover it last week but Aubrey 'Gypsy' Albano had his 29 game hitting streak stopped on June 29th against Montreal when he went 0-5. This past week he hit a pedestrian .286 and is now at .394 for the season. Our new hit streak leader is Knights second basemen Timmy Brown, who currently checks in at 25 games. The 26 year old has seen his average go from .240 to .299 and he's hoping to be selected to his first All-Star game this season.

    4. The All-Star game will be played in 11 days and voting is coming to a close. In the Domestic we have Aubrey 'Gypsy' Albano as the top vote getter, while in the Import the honor belongs to Marco Taylor. Some players who lead in votes and looking to make their first appearance: 1B Jayson Buenaventura (WIL), 2B Maxwell George (PIT), 2B Zeus Alder (CAR), and LF Jarred 'Shooter' Lathrop (NYK).

    5. Two more 3-game match-ups this week between the Import and Domestic as they battle for the third time this season. Two series we are excited for are Wilmington at California to start the week, and Pawtucket at California to end the week. I guess we will see real quick how Cobb fits in with the Clowns. Then in the later part of the week the Patriots will fly almost 3000 miles to San Jose to meet the Kodiaks. Last season Pawtucket swept California and we're excited to see how this potential Brewmasters preview plays out.
