  • The 2046 Daily Keg - Week 12

    07/02/2046

    Mighty Pawtucket took a tumble with a 3-4 week which opened up the gates for a new #1...so we would like to welcome Montreal back to the top of the PR after their 5-2 week, which included going 3-1 against the Patriots. They weren't the best though as Maine, New Orleans, Syracuse, and LAD all went 5-1. On the flip side Wilmington went 1-6 while Indy, Toronto and Phoenix went 1-5.

    Power Rankings

    1) Montreal Exports (111.1, ++)
    2) California Kodiaks (110.6, +)
    3) Batavia Red Jackets (109.9, -)
    4) New York Knights (106.5, ++)
    5) Pawtucket Patriots (106.2, -)
    6) Washington Bats (105.9, o)
    7) Santo Domingo Rum Runners (103.9, +)
    8) New Orleans Voodoo (100.6, ++)
    9) Syracuse Snappers (100.2, ++)
    10) Seattle Pilots (97.6, o)
    11) Wilmington Clowns (96.5, --)
    12) Los Angeles Dinos (93.7, ++)
    13) Pittsburgh Millers (92.0, -)
    14) Dallas Drillers (87.7, -)

    21) Baltimore Bulldogs (69.8, o)
    22) Hartford Whalers (69.8, -)
    23) Toronto Canadians (59.7, -)
    24) Indianapolis Racers (51.0, o)

    Performance of the Week

    SS Colby 'Mirror' Hullinger - It's been a quiet year for arguably the best player in the game but on June 30th 'Mirror' had a breakout of sorts. Against Hartford in an 18-1 drubbing he racked up four hits, one home run, drove in five, and scored three times. He's now hitting .257/.331/.497 with 14 HR's and 53 RBI's on the season. He's on pace for a 4.9 WAR, which is pretty good until you realize last season he put a 9.4 WAR on the board.

    Prospect of the Week

    RF Roman Toguchi - The 23 year old was a 1st round pick by Philly back in 2040 and looks like he's almost fully cooked to go to the show. This last week he smashed three home runs in one game and is now hitting .283/.439/.664 with 16 HR's and 42 RBI's. He's slow, he can't field well, and he's known for being greedy...but the young man can hit the ball a long way.

    Five Things We Think We Think

    1. 'Batavia is Back Baby' won July with a 20-8 record, the best in the BLB, and now leads the Stout by three games over Washington. This was the team that won 46 games in 2044, total. For some reason it just warms our heart to see the Muck...er...Red Jackets back on top. Some other top months were California (18-9), New York (18-11), and Santo Domingo (16-11).

    2. You set the all-time steals record one week, and the next you get beaned and involved in a bench clearing brouhaha. On June 30th the Philly and Seattle game was a brawl...literally. In the top of the ninth Philly hit back to back home runs as they took a 9-7 lead. In the bottom of the 9th James Messina tied it up with a two-run shot off of Gavin Moore. Up came Richie 'Powder' van Luik who quickly fell down 0-2 in the count before for some unknown reason Moore drilled him with a fastball. 'Powder' exploded and rushed the mound and the brawl was on. In the end Seattle won on a walk-off in the 11th, Moore was suspended seven games, and Luik was suspended three.

    3. Johnathon Dorado was LAD's 1st round pick in 2044 and was called up after his first seven starts in AAA this season. What's he done in seven BLB starts, well how about going 5-1 with a 1.80 ERA and 0.93 WHIP. For his efforts he was awarded the June IL Pitcher of the Month and the IL Rookie of the Month. Not bad for a guy who started the year as the 95th overall prospect in the BLB.

    4. Montreal takes over the top spot in the PR and suddenly the purse strings open as 1B Jaxson Neal was signed on the dotted line a few days ago. His new contract is a 5-year contract extension worth a total of $105,880,000. This isn't the first time the Exports dug around in the seat cushions for some 'Neal Money' either. In 2034 he entered the BLB from the British Virgin Islands and Montreal scooped him up with a $5,000,000 bonus. Two All-Star appearances, two Designated Drivers, a DWI, and a world championship where he was the MVP makes it look like a good investment.

    5. Aubrey 'Gypsy' Albano continues to hit .406 as we have our first .400 hitter in July in quite a while. Throw in some possible Triple Crown magic and it could be a fun way to end the season. In the pitching category both Christian Vines and Derek Bell are heavy favorites to take it home as Vines leads in ERA and K's, and is one off in wins. Meanwhile Bell leads in K's, is one off in wins, and is .01 in ERA down from California's Joseph Tinsley.

    Trivia of the Week

    Name as many BLB Triple Crown winners as you can, and who has done it twice?

          Pawtucket =13. Proud of this, but this explains why our "Fan interest" is drifting south each season. The Rhode Islanders are RACIST!!!!

          We need to move this team.
