    Look at those Knights with the best record in league at 5-1. They swept Indy then went 2-1 against Montreal to push their record to 36-29 and only 2.5 games behind Batavia for the Stout lead. Yes that is correct...Batavia is back baby. Meanwhile Dallas, Seattle, SDR, Cali, Denver, and Phoenix all went 4-2 as the Domestic and Import played each other for the second time this season. Some team leaders: Montreal scored 56 runs, Dallas only allowed nine runs, SDR and NY hit 15 home runs, Dallas and Batavia swiped 11 bases, New Orleans struck out 68 batters, and opponents only hit .193 against the Drillers.

    Performance of the Week

    1B Kaleb Clinkingbeard - On June 16th against Hartford Clinkingbeard did something that only two other players in the history of the BLB had done...hit four home runs in one game. Last years New Brew and DWI winner at 1st has struggled this season but he didn't struggle in this game. He hit a solo-shot off T.J. Meadows in the 2nd, a grand slam off Meadows in the 3rd, a solo-shot off Tom Benjamin in the 4th, and then hit a two-run home run off Benjamin in the 6th. He came up again in the 8th but struck out. Maybe this will get him back in the swing of things.

    Prospect of the Week

    P Cayden Wittmeyer - Could the title of best pitcher in the league stay in the Ale? It very well might if the torch gets passed from Vines to Wittmeyer down the road. Drafted 1.1 this year he's already the #2 prospect in the league, throws five pitches, hits 100 mph on his fastball, and is everything a top pick should be. He's already pitched 60 innings this season at North Carolina so we're not sure how much Maine is willing to let him throw but we'll be watching his limited outings.

    In this one we had a pitcher throw 15 or more strikeouts, and his name wasn't Christian Vines. The star was 24 year old Martin Hoffman who has slowly morphed from reliever to a potential ace in the starting lineup. Undrafted back in 2039 he was signed to a MLC by New Orleans and is in his third BLB season. Since 2043 the 15+ K feat has been done 12 times, with Vines doing it eight of them. Anyways in this game Hoffman got the start, went eight innings, allowed five hits, one unearned run, walked one, and struck out 16. He's now 4-2 with a 2.89 ERA and 72 K's in eight starts.

    Five Things We Think We Think

    1. Teams in the BLB within three games of .500: Syracuse, Pittsburgh, Santo Domingo, New Orleans, Dallas, Philly, Seattle, Windy City, and Phoenix. That's a lot of good teams with some great players just floating around. Will they sink or swim? Expect some big trades in the next few weeks as those teams either try and get over the hump or call it a season.

    2. Aubrey 'Gypsy' Albano has hit safely in 19 straight games now and is hitting .407 for the season. If he hits .395 the rest of the way he'll be the BLB's third ever hitter to hit .400+. Seattle amazingly had two players do it in 2039 when Johnny Thompson and Richie 'Powder' van Luik hit .401 and .402 respectively. 'Powder' since then has hit over .300 every single season while Thompson hit .297 in 2040 then .105 in 2041 and never played in the BLB again. He retired in 2044 with only 352 total major league games played but one off the charts season.

    3. Speaking of Richie 'Powder' van Luik we have to wait at least another game for the stolen bases record to fall. This past week he appeared in five games and got three hits which happened to be a home run, double, and triple. He's tied for the league lead of 27 with Maine's Derek 'Headgame' Bohlmann who's career count of 46 only trails 'Powder' by 631. There are a few up and coming speedsters who can hit but none with the ability to hit .300+ year after year and run like Luik. When he finishes playing the game we might never see that record fall.

    4. Last seasons big story was Maine's A club the Barre Grays who at one point lost 62 straight games, which is even more statistically improbable than hitting .400. We are happy to report though that this season Barre is 31-19 and one game out of first in the Capitol division. They have given up the 11th most runs but are 1st in runs scored and led by 1B Mitch Marcinkowski, the 24th overall prospect in the league.

    5. Denver's 1B Chase Bartell had a big week, including a 3-home run game that was overshadowed by Clinkingbeard. Over the course of five games against New Orleans and Toronto he hit .556 with 6 HR's and 8 RBI's while scoring nine times. He was named the Import Player of the Week and has a solid shot to be the Import New Brew. He is struggling in the field though, and his -9.8 ZR at first is the worst in the league and might keep him from getting any sort of postseason hardware.
