Five Things We Think We Think
1. It's been a good month for Wilmington (18-8), Pawtucket (17-7) and Syracuse (15-10) as they have risen to the top of the Ale. Throw in Maine (13-12) and Hartford (12-13) and the Ale has the best record since May 1st. Then throw in Pittsburgh (9-16) and the Millers just screw everything up. No one is hoping June gets here faster than the fans in Pittsburgh.
2. We have two hitting streaks currently going as Pilots Richie 'Powder' van Luik is up to 18 games and Dinos Brian Wallace is at 17 games. 'Powder' has gone from .250 to .301 while Wallace has gone from .264 to .336 during their streaks. Wallace is looking to go to his second straight All-Star game while Luik is trying to get back after last going in 2044. Luik has also swiped eight bases during his run and is now only nine away from tying the all-time record.
3. Congrats to Pat 'Melody' Nunes who hit his 400th career home run this week and Dave Nichols who recorded his 2000th career hit. The 37 year old Nunes was the 2nd overall pick of the 2026 draft, is a 5x All-Star, and helped Washington win the Brewmasters in 2039. He's also considered one of the 'bad boys' of the league and has never been popular in the clubhouse. Nichols meanwhile is 35 years old and was the 23rd overall pick of the 2028 draft. He's one of the best defensive catchers to ever play the game and is a 5x DWI winner and 6x All-Star.
4. As mentioned earlier USC has a 1-0 lead on Arizona in the CWS after pounding the Wildcats 17-2 in game one. In the CCBL the postseason is over though as the Wareham Gatemen took down Brewster two games to none to win their first title since 2039 and ninth overall. The Gatemen went 30-19 on the season and were led by outfielder Hayden Riffle who hit .348 with 20 HR's and freshman starter Owen 'Mule' Ward who went 5-3 with a 2.47 ERA.
5. Are the Clowns for real? Last year they won 74 games and the year before 73. Now they are tied for the second most wins in the league. This week though should be quite the test as they play three at Pawtucket then three at Montreal. Nothing like six games on the road against the division leaders. In the Import we get the special match-up of first place Washington at first place California. To say the Bats have the Kodiaks number in the playoffs would be an understatement as they have gone 7-0 and swept California out of the playoffs the last two seasons. Time to see if Cali can gain some confidence back in their first meeting this season.
