The Whalers went over to the Import and swept both LAD and Phoenix for the only perfect week. Hartford is now only three games under .500 in the very crowded Ale. Other nice weeks were Batavia, Windy City, and Washington who all went over to the Domestic, kicked some butt, and went 5-1. On the other side of life the aforementioned Phoenix went 0-6 while Baltimore, Toronto, and Pittsburgh all went 1-5. With everyone playing six some of the team leaders: Batavia scored 53 runs and hit 15 home runs, Maine swiped 12 bases, Dallas hit .324, Pawtucket and Syracuse allowed only 19 runs, and the Patriots allowed opponents to hit only .192.

Performance of the Week
1B Jaxson Neal - On May 14th against Denver he turned in the #1 hitting performance of the season. In five at bats he tallied up five hits, one home run, drove in seven and scored three times in an 11-3 victory over the Bulls. He also went for the cycle with a double in the first, a bases loaded triple in the third, a home run in the fifth, another double in the sixth and a single in the seventh.
Prospect of the Week
LF Mason Chronister - As if the Red Jackets didn't get enough future All-Stars with all those top five picks, they found Chronister with the 24th pick of the 2nd round in 2043. He's worked his way up to #69 on the prospect list and is tearing the cover off the ball in AA so far this season. In 29 games he's hitting .314/.430/.581 and at 23 years old he might be in AAA by next month at this rate.
Game of the Week
Have the Blues found another ace in 25 year old DeVontae Buenteo? He was acquired from New Orleans in the Sean Sayers trade but had a rough year in Chicago last season when he went 4-13 with a 4.38 ERA. This year though he's been off to a hot start including this two hit shutout against Toronto on May 19th. A single in the bottom of the 3rd and a single in the bottom of the 8th were it for the Canadians, and no runner got past first on the night. Buenteo is now 2-1 with a 3.15 ERA in eight starts.
Five Things We Think We Think
1. Phoenix is free falling having lost eight in a row and could Derek Bell be on the block? The 31 year old has been on fire this season and is currently 4-0 with a 1.57 ERA in eight starts. The only issue is his contract that runs until 2051 and is worth $39,000,000 a year. He's the highest paid player in the league and the only way we see him being moved is if the Road Runners pick up at minimum 25%.
2. Jayson Buenaventura is leading the league in average, home runs, and RBI's and already has a WAR of 2.2. He struggled the last two years in Santo Domingo so the Clowns got him at a great price, and at 29 years old he might have found his second wind. He's on pace to hit .375 with 61 HR's and 162 RBI's and we're almost to June. He has to cool off some but for a guy who has never been to an All-Star game he's having a dream season.
3. Batavia is back baby. The Red Jackets are 23-15 and only two games out of the Stout lead. This future juggernaut has been building for years and only three of their top prospects have been brought up to the show so far. SP's Egon Aranguren and Randy Butterfield and 3B Julian Irwin are getting their first major league action, while guys like Devon Keen, Jerry 'Snake Hips' Coleman, Payton Durst, and Joel Sawyer are still a few seasons away. This team could win several championships in the early 2050's, if not sooner.
4. As the BLB draft approaches the so called 'feeder' leagues wind down. In the CCBL the Wareham Gatemen have a 1-0 lead over the Brewster Whitecaps in the Cape Cup. In the NCAA we're down to the Super Regionals as USC leads Oregon State 1-0 and Clemson leads Arizona 1-0. Finally at the High School level we've already crowned a champion as the Alec C Pope Generals defeated the Riverdale Baptist Crusaders two games to none. The Generals had the best record this season at the HS level by going 30-10 and were first in almost every offensive category. They were led by sophomore Parker Lee and junior Collin Duquette who combined to hit 40 home runs and drive in 116 runs.
5. With a lot of teams hovering around .500 we're still waiting to separate the contenders from the pretenders. We are in luck this week though as we get to see six teams with winning records face off. Get your tickets for Windy City (22-17) at California (24-15), Philly (21-18) at Batavia (23-15), and Wilmington (24-16) at New Orleans (22-16).
