Hello BLB fans... Keep checking back in as we track all the major Free Agents in the BLB this offseason.
12/20/2045
Santo Domingo signs CF Carrington Rao for 3 years $10.5M
Outfield defence was a disaster for the Rum Runners last year, and rumour has it they beat out quite few other BLB teams for the power hitting defensive stalwart from China. Scouts rave about his ability to play DWI defence at all three positions and his long, athletic frame should lead to 20 home runs, albeit with potentially 200 strikeouts, for a team that already hits the long ball at an alarming rate.
Grade: B+
Pawtucket signs LF Sean Sayers for 7 years $147.1M
After returning to the playoffs the Patriots made a huge splash this off season with one of the most sought after bats going to Pawtucket. With a huge hole in LF going into next year, the Patriots added the prize outfielder for a very reasonable deal, that will look even better if he opts out after three years. Adding a veteran bat to a middle of the order that already features Will Harper and Montay Kim will certainly take some of the pressure off of a young, and developing Pawtucket pitching staff.
Grade: A
12/27/2045
Toronto signs LF Cody De Angelis for 3 years $16.4M
After looking like a breakout star in New York and three straight 20+ home run seasons, De Angelis has had a very disappointing year last year. In a crowded outfield of players about the same calibre, De Angelis will fight for time, but at this price seems like a solid investment with the potential for the upside he showed as recently as two years ago.
Grade: B-
Toronto signs CF Layne Marmol for 4 years $47M
Another big outfield signing for Toronto, and this one made a huge splash! Play all three outfield positions really well... Check! Can run like the wind... Check! Has the potential to bash LHSP... Check! Taking one of the best players from a team in front of you, in your division... Check! A savvy move that will shore up what has been a revolving door of outfielders, and provide a proven leader as Toronto looks to make its way back to its glory years!
Grade: A
12/30/2045
Santo Domingo signs SP Gerald Schumacher for 4 years $16M
There is a reason the same few teams make the playoffs every year. Adding a LHSP with a career ERA under 4.00 and who last year have a QS rate of 71% is a no brainer. When that pitcher comes from the Phoenix pitching factory, and costs a lousy $4M per season, that's a downright steal. For a team with yearly Brewmaster expectations, Schumacher's ability to take the ball every 5 days, or potentially close, if rumours are to be believed has put the rest of the Lager on notice!
Grade: A+
01/12/2046
Toronto signs RF Ezra Chalmers for 3 years $27M
For a team that finished third from the bottom in the DL in home runs, Chalmers, if he can return to his New Brew form will be a welcome addition. He joins a long line of Torontonians that are all bat and little glove. He absolutely mashes RHP and in a platoon situation can be lethal. A very solid under the radar by a Toronto club that is making some very good moves this off season.
Grade: B
01/20/2046
Philadelphia signs SS Hayden Baney for 3 years $11.5M
After trading away Omar Jones a few seasons ago Philadelphia has been trying to find the right fit to lock down SS at the BLB level. Hayden Baney may be better suited to third base, but his bat and experience will be a welcome addition for a team that is making some strong complimentary moves as they round out a roster that hopes to find for a Wild Card in 2046.
Grade: B
Wilmington signs SP Alan Allen for 3 years $20.12M
Finding a LHSP in the BLB nowadays is always a good move. Finding one with 102 career wins and a 3.59 ERA is even better. With the retirement of one JJ Plumley, Allen will fill a large hole in a lineup that will certainly take more than one pitcher to make up for. The 2038 Brew Champ will quickly endear himself to the Wilmington fans with his bulldog mentality and strike throwing prowress.
Grade: A
01/28/2046
Washington signs 3B Karson Blair for 6 years $153M
The #1 free agent in this year's class has finally found a home. The BLB needs to take notice as the team that has been to back to back Brews just added a premier two way player in Blair. Not only does he add another bat to an already potent lineup, but brings DWI defence to help support the Bats young starting pitching staff. And with an opt out after 3 years, it was all done at a very reasonable price.
Grade: A+
02/03/2046
Batavia signs RF Logan Wilcher for 5 years $96M
With, by far and away the game's best minor league system, Batavia has money to spend. The 30 year old brings stellar defence, 30 home run potential and his high baseball IQ to a team that will slowly be adding young players into the mix over the next few seasons. He is sure to take the pressure of the young batters, and make it easy for young Batavia hurlers as he roams RF with the best in the league.
Grade: A-
Wilmington signs SP Treshawn Cooks for 6 years $100M
Another pitcher as Wilmington totally revamps their pitching staff this offseason. Cooks has always shown flashes of brilliance and has also spent time on the Top Players List. At $16M a season, Cooks will slot nicely near the top of the Wilmington rotation. There is still a lot to do in Wilmington to catch the DL's big boys, but Cooks is a durable starter that will give the Clowns a great chance to win every 5 days!
Grade: A
02/03/2046
California signs Bryon Vasquez for 3 years $23.5M
This clearly feels like a fallback price for the Kodiaks. According to rumours they narrowly missed out on signing Blair and had to settle for the unknown Vasquez. Grainy video has surfaced of him hitting 400 foot home runs in his native Acapulco. $23.5M feels like huge bargain, or a massive swing and miss. Only time will tell with this high priced gamble.
Grade: C+
02/04/2046
Philadelphia signs 2B Josiah Weir for 3 years $21.45M
Another solid infielder as Philadelphia looks to be pressing all the right buttons this offseason. Picked up late in the season in a trade, it looked like Weir would walk, but just couldn't resist the chance to agin suit up in the City of Brotherly Love! Weir can play all over the infield and adds another great glove in what is soon becoming one of the game's elite infield defences for the Freedom!
Grade: B
Batavia signs SP King Sadiraj for 5 years $70.5M
The biggest pitcher name on the market has finally found a home. All of the reasons that Wilcher was a great signing in Batavia, fit with Sadiraj as well. He will provide great leadership and stability as all of the young Batavia pitching prospects begin their assault in the league in the coming seasons.
Grade: B+
02/08/2046
Toronto signs 3B Logan Jacobi for 2 years $25M
The Canadians continue to remake their roster by signing former Kodiak legend Logan Jacobi. Still a defensive marvel, Jacobi is now suited to platoon duties, as he can still rake vs. RHP, but is very susceptible to LHP. For only two years, his playoff experience and his ability to play both sides of the ball were a shrewd move by a GM trying to get his team once step closer to fighting for a Wild Card.
Grade: B
Santo Domingo signs 3B Zane Burns for 4 years $12M
This might be the steal of the off season. Burns was due almost $12M in arbitration and received that for FOUR YEARS in Santo Domingo. A DWI calibre 3B, who is reportedly moving to second base, can be an effective platoon vs. LHSP, and play all over the infield. He also brings playoff experience and often shines brightest under the October spotlight!
Grade: A
02/12/2046
New Orleans signs 2B Joseph Garneau for 1 year $10.5M and 3B Roman Hatcher for 1 year $14.01M
Two one year deals that we lumped together. Returning from the high of a Brew title, New Orleans adding a couple of veteran bats to help take some of the pressure off of all work Colby Hullinger. Although both are fairly average defenders, Garneau can easily slot into the top of the order, and one rival GM thinks that Hatcher has a Stout Slugger year in him coming up!
Combined Grade: B+
Wilmington signs SS Dusty Schmidl for 1 year $17.04M
What a fun signing this is! Schmidl just refuses to age. One of the league's all time great middle infielders is fast approaching 2500 hits and 450 home runs! At some point he'll slow down, but Wilmington is hoping for one more great season out Schmidl, who continues to amaze with both his bat and glove, even though he just turned 39 years old!
Grade: B
03/20/2046
Wilmington signs 1B Jayson Buenaventura for 3 years $22.5M
Wilmington continues their makeover with their last signing of FA being the power hitting 1B from SDR. This is a solid pickup for a team that finished in the bottom half of the league in home runs last year. Combined with the aforementioned Wilmington signings earlier, this should provide Clowns fans with a very exciting season as the Wild Card looks firmly within reach in 2046!
Grade: B
Toronto signs SP Harold Valentine for 3 years $43.2M
Much like Wilmington, Toronto has rebuilt their entire roster this offseason. The final piece being SP, Harold Valentine. There might not be another pitcher with more electric stuff in the BLB. An owner of one no hitter and multiple no hitters being carried into the 8th and 9th innings, he may just be the rock that the Toronto pitching staff leans on this year. And for a workhorse, a very reasonable 3 year deal!
Grade: A-
New York signs 1B J.D. Rice for 2 years $61M
Last but not least, the big man finally signs. J.D. and his HOF career are finally leaving Baltimore for the big city lights of New York! How could you not love a contract that is only two years for the game's premier slugger. He instantly anchors the the young Knight offence and takes all of the pressure of off Schaaf, Werth, and Brown. This signing was quite literally a home run (needed one bad pun) for Knights fans, and a gut punch for the division rival Baltimore.
