    It was interleague week and the Import took it to the Domestic. There were three 6-0 weeks, all by IL teams, as Seattle, Carolina, and California beat up on their cross-league friends, stole their lunch money, then went out with their girlfriends. The only Domestic team to put up a fight was Maine who went 5-1. The goose egg award goes to the Clowns who went 0-6, while Toronto, Baltimore, and Indy all went 1-5. Some team leaders for the week: Carolina scored 33 runs, California only allowed seven runs, Seattle hit .307 while allowing opponents to hit .148, and Syracuse swiped nine bases.

    Performance of the Week

    P Jamie Sokolowski - No one broke into the Top Performances of the year this week, but eight days ago Sokolowski shut down Windy City for the 21st best pitching outing of the season. In eight innings he allowed only two hits, no runs, no walks, and struck out 10 as the Red Jackets won 1-0. The 24 year old from Iceland is now 8-10 with a 4.32 ERA in his first full season starting for Batavia. He throws five pitches, his fastball can hit 101 mph, and scouts believe he could be a legit starter if he gets his control...well under control.

    Prospect of the Week

    CF Tommy Simpson - The 55th rated prospect in baseball was a fourth round pick back in 2041 by Dallas but traded to Toronto in 2043. He was named to the 2043 and 2045 Futures Game and this season in A ball he's hitting .252/.344/.436 with 19 HR's and 68 RBI's. He's also swiped 41 bases while playing all 120 games in center field. Did we mention that coaches say he's the captain of the locker room and his work ethic is off the charts? This kid could be a star.

    Seattle has been hitting on all cylinders as of late. Since August 1st they are 30-9 and continue to put pressure on California for the Bock division crown. In this game two of their stars came through yet again as starter Bradley Beehn and Louie Dano Dasmarinas dominated the Canadians. Beehn started out by giving up a single to lead off man Elridge Perez. Perez then stole second during the next at bat but that was as far as he got. In the third Perez came up again and got another single. Two hits, not bad! How many hits did the rest of Toronto batters get on the day...zero. How many hits did LDD have...three...including a solo shot in the top of the 7th that gave Seattle a 1-0 lead. They scored again later in the inning off of a T.J. Ellison single that brought home Ty O'Neil to make it 2-0. Beehn was replaced by Nigel Reese who went two innings and struck out three, then in came Garret Letterle for the 9th. A fly-out, ground out, and fielders choice at second and the game was over.


    Five Things We Think We Think

    1. Congrats to 37 year old Dusty Kocurek who recorded his 2000th career hit on September 8th against Wilmington. The 2x All-Star and 3x DWI winner has always been known for his glove but 2000 hits is 2000 hits. He was a second round pick back in 2028 by the then New Orleans Dukes, and played 10 seasons with them before being traded to Seattle near the end of 2040. Since then he's played for Hartford and now Windy City where he's currently hitting .178 in 95 games this year.

    2. We had our first teams get into the playoffs this last week as Pawtucket and New Orleans both clinched at least a wildcard spot. The streak is over for the Patriots as they go back to the postseason for the first time since 2033. Both teams are also projected to win their division as Pawtucket leads the Ale by 11.5 games while the Voodoo lead the Lager by 7.5 games.

    3. Speaking of playoffs the minor league playoffs have begun. The Rookie League is into the second round while AAA, AA, and A all start this week. Omaha (Was) led the RL in wins this season, Lexington (SDR) led A ball, Auburn (Was) led AA, while Trenton (Philly) led AAA. Those lovable Barre Greys also finished the season with 27 wins after going 26-32 from July on.

    4. Satchel 'Crayon' Ramirez has been 'en fuego' as of late. In his last nine appearances he's pitched nine innings, picked up nine saves, allowed no runs, and struck out 13. On the season he's 3-4 with 34 saves and a 1.17 ERA. He came into the league in 2033 as an IAFA from Chile and was signed by the Miami Sharks for a cool $2,000,000. He was then traded by Dallas in 2041 for a slew of prospects. He's rated the #1 overall closer in baseball and was a big reason why the Kodiaks took the 2043 BLB title.

    5. Some fun match-ups this week: California at Carolina, Pawtucket at New Orleans, and Dallas at Montreal. The first features two teams who are red hot as both have won seven in a row. Since 2039 though California has dominated this series 55-18. In the second series we have both Domestic division leaders. Pawtucket is 2-5 against the Voodoo this year and will be looking to right the ship. Finally we have the Exports and the Drillers who are a half game apart for the second and third wildcard spots.
