New York didn't fair much better against Thomson as they only recorded four hits on the day, but two of them were big ones. In the top of the 4th Melchior Werth opened things up with towering solo shot to center, and then he did it once again to deep center to open up the 6th. The other two hits were singles where the runner never advanced past first but the damage had been done. Harvey Leichtfuss came in for the Knights in the 9th, went 1-2-3, and picked up his sixth save of the season.
Trivia of the Week
In the last decade what are the top five BLB franchises in wins?
Spoiler
Five Things We Think We Think
1. Elmer 'Bane' Caceres has now won back to back POTW awards for the DL after going from Toronto to Pittsburgh via trade last month. In 79 games in Toronto he hit .238/.317/.465 with 16 HR's, 53 RBI's, and a 1.8 WAR. In 24 games in Pittsburgh he's hitting .347/.455/.847 with 11 HR's, 28 RBI's, and a 1.8 WAR.
2. The rice continues to cook as J.D. 'Hurricane' Rice hit four more home runs this week to give him both the IL lead in home runs (33) and RBI's (78). He's now only one short of last years home run total while his 2.6 WAR already surpassed last years 2.4. He's also only two home runs short of 500, which when he reaches it will make him 11th all-time. If he reaches his projected total of 48 this season he'll finish the year 9th and could be top five at the end of next season.
3. Maynor Franco of Montreal fame is now 15-1, winning his last 15 decisions, and hasn't lost in 20 starts. To go along with his 15-1 record he has a 2.44 ERA, 1.05 WHIP, and 3.0 WAR. Pretty good numbers until you look at the out of this world Vines. His 6.4 WAR in 18 starts leads second place Erik Foley by over a point, and he's on pace for a 9.1 WAR. Not too shabby until you remember that 2044 Vines put up an 11.4 WAR. He might be an alien.
4. You know who isn't on a win streak...Batavia's Derek Crocker. The former second round draft pick was moved to the pen but as a starter he's 0-9 on the season. Last year he was 2-15 and he's now on a 15 game losing streak. In 2043 he was 7-16 while in 2042 he was 1-7. When you are a career 10-49 with a 6.01 ERA sometimes it just isn't your decade.
5. Since July 31st the Pilots have won 12 out of 13 games with their only loss a one-run game to Chicago. During that time pitcher Bradley Beehn is 3-0 with a 2.37 ERA while only giving up two home runs. Also during that time hitter Bradley Beehn put up a .375/.474/1.000 line with 3 HR's and 8 RBI's. When you hit more home runs than you give up we're pretty sure that is a good thing.
