  • The 2045 Daily Keg - Week 17

    08/07/2045

The Brutal Bock...er...Lager...comes through again as this time Santo Domingo goes 7-0 with sweeps of Maine and Toronto. After winning eight straight the Rum Runners are 63-44 and only a game back from second place in the division. Other big weeks were Seattle and Wilmington who each went 6-1. The Clowns are a second half team and are now only five games under .500, while the Pilots are in the midst of a wild Import wildcard race. The Voodoo also had a nice week by going 5-1 and retake the top spot in the Power Rankings while pushing their lead to seven games in the Lager.

    Performance of the Week

1B Jaxson Neal - The 27 year old first basemen for the Exports turned in the #4 hitting performance of the season on August 5th against the Snappers. He racked up four hits, two home runs, seven RBI's and scored twice in a 10-3 victory. On the year Neal is hitting .319/.364/.607 with 33 HR's and 101 RBI's in only 105 games.

    Prospect of the Week

P Trevon Pearson - The fourth round pick by Pawtucket in 2043 was traded to Toronto in April as part of the deal for pitcher Rowan Diaz. Pearson is only 19 but his ability to strikeout batters combined with his control have shot him up to the #17 prospect in baseball. In 17 starts this season he's 5-9 with a 3.93 ERA and 1.33 WHIP. Coaches love his velocity and even at a young age teammates look up to him as a leader.

The Red Jackets used three pitchers to throw a 14 inning shutout as the Dinos only made it past second base twice. One of those times was in the fourth when Micah Bahm hit a leadoff double. After a single by Chandler Beck the lead foot Bahm was waved home, and was promptly gunned down by left fielder Tom Stark. The second time was when Hassan McDaniel opened up the bottom of the 11th with a single. When Pat 'Rocket' Berman doubled two batters later the third base coach once again waved the runner home. This time right fielder Erick Timmons gunned him down at home. Batavia didn't fare much better during the course of the game and only had three total hits heading into the 14th. Timmons doubled though, James Munsie was intentionally walked, and then Tom Stark cracked a three-run home run off of Frank Arter's that went almost 400 feet into the left field bleachers. The Dinos went down 1-2-3 in the bottom of the inning and the 44k+ in attendance shuffled out slowly thinking that they desperately need a new third base coach.

    Trivia of the Week
Who are the top career slugging percentage leaders in BLB history?

    Answer below the SOTW.

Five Things We Think We Think

    1. Bradley Beehn continues to be one of the most successful two-way players in BLB history. This season as a starter he's 13-5 with a 3.06 ERA and 1.10 WHIP. He's also hit in 19 games this season where he's put up a .286/.375/.554 stat line with 3 HR's, 7 RBI's and four stolen bases. Over his career his 162 game average is 20 HR's, 64 RBI's, and 23 stolen bases. Not too shabby.

    2. Nobody likes to run like Batavia. This week they only swiped five bases, a low for them, but on the season they lead the league with 141 stolen bases. They have been caught 43 times though for a success rate of 76.6%. Toronto meanwhile has only 56 stolen bases, tied for 7th lowest in the BLB, but their success rate of 84.8% is number one. Maybe it's time for third year manager D.J. Gallagher to give that green light a little more often.

    3. Maine has a negative ZR at every position except left field, where they are +2.33, and their overall team number is -53.92. Tops in the league for team ZR is our old reliable tandem of Wilmington and California. The Clowns sit at +34.69 and California is at +34.61. No other team is within 10 points of them.

    4. LAD is another team suffering from a playoff drought as the last time they went to the postseason was 2039. This year though they are 60-48 and their playoff odds sit at 80%. This last week was another nice one for them as well. Brian Wallace was named the IL Batter of the Month after hitting .386 with 4 HR's and 22 RBI's, Alec Stotts was named IL Pitcher of the Month after going 5-0 with a 2.02 ERA in six starts, and Jehvon Jacob was named IL Batter of the Week after hitting .417 with 4 HR's and 6 RBI's.

    5. We are back to interleague this week with a few great match-ups. To start off we get to see a first place series between Washington and New Orleans, Seattle travel to Pawtucket, and Montreal host the Tobs. To finish the week we get another first place match-up between California and New Orleans while Montreal travels to Washington.

Haha... I just replaced mine with a windmill from a mini golf course course... Works the same, but cheaper!
