And we're on the second half of the season as the Dallas Drillers continue to roll! They went 6-0...again...and have now reeled off 15 straight wins. Once this team was in the midst of a struggling wildcard season, and now they are only 4.5 games behind the Voodoo for the Lager lead...and it's all happened in three weeks. Another big week was Carolina who went 6-1. The Tobs haven't been the postseason since 2038 but now sit atop the IL wildcard while only being three games back from Washington in the Stout. Throw in Baltimore who went 5-1, and Montreal and LAD who went 5-2, and it was a successful week for more than a few teams. The other side of the pillow wasn't as soft though as New York went 1-6, and Philly, Santo Domingo, and Indy all went 1-5.

Performance of the Week
P Martin Hoffman - The 23 year old tossed the third no-hitter of the season on July 29th against Wilmington. Over the course of the game he allowed no runs, no hits, struck out 10, and walked five as the Voodoo won 2-0. On the season he's now 4-1 with a 1.43 ERA in 21 games. He has officially moved into the starting role where he has started eight in a row with a 1.62 ERA while going 3-1. Just another young gun to dominate BLB hitters.
Prospect of the Week
1B Joseph Llamas - Selected by California with the 55th overall pick in 2043 he's #99 on the prospect list but #1 in our hearts. Well maybe not #1 but we do like him a lot. He's not much of a fielder, and he can't run very fast, but scouts think his slugging potential is off the charts. This season in the Rookie League he's hitting .282/.387/.486 with 6 HR's and 23 RBI's in 60 games.

In the 13th Benarrivo hit a sac fly to allow Harrison Breshears to come home and give Phoenix the lead. LAD was down to their last out, but Hassan McDaniel hit a 1-0 pitch into the left field seats to tie it once again. Four innings later Chadd Chua scored off a single after he tripled in his bat, and then two batters later Levin smashed a three run home run to put the game out of reach. Not so fast my friend. In the bottom of the 17th McDaniel once again homered, this time on the first pitch of the inning. Jacob then singled, then Remington Melville singled, and then Micah Bahm brought them both home with a triple. With the score 10-9, and a man on third with no outs, the home crowd was going nuts. Sadly though it wasn't meant to be. Wallace quickly grounded out, Chandler Beck grounded out, and then Julian Morgenson struck out on three straight pitches to end the game. Nineteen runs, 36 hits, and 10 home runs...what a game.
Five Things We Think We Think
1. Has the hot trade market over the last few weeks paid off for teams around the BLB? Treshawn Cooks just went from Hartford to Seattle, then proceeds to throw a five hit shut-out against Washington in his first game as a Pilot. Elmer 'Bane' Caceres was traded from Toronto to Pittsburgh and in 13 games is hitting .263/.356/.605 with 4 HR's and 12 RBI's. Hartford sent Logan Wilcher to Pawtucket and he's hitting .272/.343/.489 with 4 HR's and 10 RBI's in 24 games. Johnathan Cathcart went from Denver to Baltimore and in 34 games is hitting .279/.311/.456 with 6 HR's and 17 RBI's. Finally California picked up Harold Delgado from Batavia for a 3rd and he's hitting .350/.480/.600...in AAA. Wait what? Well I guess they aren't all winners.
2. Christian Vines has a 5.6 WAR, almost a point higher than second place in the entire league. He's also only started 16 games and pitched in 99.2 innings. A line of 7-3 with a 1.08 ERA, 0.80 WHIP, and 164 K's (also tops in the league), is just downright silly when he hasn't even reached the century mark yet for innings pitched.
3. Robert 'Stretch' Jessee recently just hit his 800th extra base hit, and is currently in a tie for 79th place all-time with Pete Miller and Robby Brooksher. How many of the top 10 all-time can you name? Answer below the Stat of the Week.
4. After a 1-5 week there are rumors that Santo Domingo is thinking of selling...and selling hard. The Rum Runners are currently 56-44, which believe it or not is only good enough for fourth in the Lager. Still though their current playoff odds are...let us double check this number...100%. Not very often does a team that is almost guaranteed a playoff spot think about selling. Considering their GM is 667 games over .500 and been to the playoffs an amazing 36 times, we are going to assume they know what they are doing in the DR. Will anyone buy? This team is loaded in talent from Sheng 'Admiral' Jong to Ben Clewley to Jaden Feldmann to Christian Carroll and it could affect more than one playoff race.
5. When we talk about 'no respect' how about Exports ace Maynor Franco. The 28 year old is a lifetime 81-38 with a 3.24 ERA. Last season he was 3-0 in the playoffs and helped lead Montreal to yet another BLB championship. This year he lost his opening day game to Santo Domingo, and now has won 12 in a row. What does 12-1 with a 2.54 ERA get you in the DL...apparently not even an All-Star bid or a place on the OSA Top Pitchers list. He was an international amateur free agent from Guatemala back in 2035 and Montreal wooed him with a nice $7.5m bonus to head north. Talk about money well spent.
