  • The 2045 Daily Keg - Week 14

    07/17/2045

It was interleague week as we had a team from each league dominate. In the Domestic it was Dallas who went 6-0 with sweeps of Batavia and Philly. In the Import it was Carolina who went 6-0 with sweeps of New Orleans and Santo Domingo. Other nice weeks were had by Seattle, New York and Washington who each went 5-1. On the other side Toronto went 0-6, while Baltimore, Windy City, SDR, Batavia, Philly, and Hartford all went 1-5.

    Performance of the Week

1B Vince Lee - On July 15th against Wilmington the 27 year old Lee turned in the #2 performance of the season by smashing three home runs and driving in seven during a 15-3 Bulls victory. On the season he's now hitting .267/.330/.547 with 13 HR's and 31 RBI's. He was originally a 5th round pick by Maine back in 2035 but went to Wilmington in free agency before being claimed by Denver on waivers. Guess he showed those silly Clowns.

    Prospect of the Week

P Khaliq Berui - The now 22 year old was discovered out of Togo back in 2039 by Baltimore scouts and has worked his way up to the #94 prospect in the land. This season in A ball he's 7-2 with a 2.25 ERA and 1.41 WHIP in 16 starts. In his last five starts he's only allowed three runs and he's a favorite for the A ball pitcher of the year award.

    Game of the Week
Jul 11, 2045: Box Score | Game Log | Season Series

    1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 R H E
    Barre 2 0 0 1 2 0 3 3 1 12 15 0
    Aberdeen 2 0 0 0 7 0 0 2 0 11 17 0
    W: N. Savage L: J. Martinson
    HR - ABR: R. Crutchfield, D. Swanson
Our fascination with the Barre Grays can officially come to an end after their come from behind victory on July 11th gave them their first win since April 25th, breaking their record 62 game losing streak. Down 9-5 in the 7th they managed to score three runs in 7th and three more in the 8th, all without the help of a home run, to take an 11-9 lead. They wouldn't be the Grays though without giving it right back in the bottom of the 8th when Aberdeen hit a two run homerun. In the top of the 9th though Kaheem 'Martini' Burns hit a single, Troy Montague hit a double, and Sean McCauley hit a sac fly to bring home 'Martini' and give Barre the lead. In the bottom of the 9th they gave up a leadoff single but the runner was gunned down at second trying to stretch out the hit. A fly out and a walk put a man on with two outs as closer Nathan Savage tried to close it out. Three pitches later he got Casey Marsh to fly out and the celebration was on!

Five Things We Think We Think

    1. It's a big week in the BLB as we have the Home Run Derby, the All-Star game, and the Prospect Game. After last seasons scheduling mix-up we look forward to seeing the best of the IL square off against the best of DL in Chicago. We are a little confused though where Sean Sayers is going to play. He currently leads the IL in votes...but was traded to New Orleans in June. On the DL side Colby 'Mirror' Hullinger leads all players by a large margin. Will 'Mirror' and Sayers team up or will the Voodoo let him play for the Import, only time will tell.

    2. Looking at the rest of the vote getters it appears we should have a few first time selections, all from the Import. C Bear Monay from LAD, 1B Seth Donna from WC, and 2B Melchior Galasso from Seattle are all slated to play in their first midsummer classic.

    3. Batavia is back over the magic number of 400 prospect points as they currently sit at 404. They have six batters and seven pitchers in the Top 100, and their Rookie team is 37-19. Brighter days lie ahead for the Red Jackets who are 29-60 and last in the Power Rankings.

    4. We're just approaching the All-Star break but it seems the drama from last season has escaped the BLB this season. Pawtucket and New Orleans are currently at 100% to win their division, while Washington is at 94%. Only California and Phoenix in the Bock seem to be up in the air as half a game separates them. For the Domestic wildcards Pittsburgh is fourth, but has a seven game lead over Wilmington. In the Import Los Angeles is fourth, but has a five game lead over New York. Obviously the season is far from over and many things can happen, but the races just aren't as wide open as last year.

    5. We had a perfect game this week...in A ball...as Joshua Businelle for the Vancouver Mounties went 27 up and 27 down against the Reading Railers on July 10th. Businelle is currently the #15 prospect in the league and was traded to Toronto from Philly in the 2043 deal that sent Robert 'Stretch' Jessee to the Freedom. He was a 4th round pick in 2042 by Philadelphia after winning back to back College World Series with the Texas A&M Aggies.
