  • The 2045 Daily Keg - Week 12

    07/03/2045

The Exports go 6-1 with a four game sweep of Maine, but the Patriots maintain their hold on the top of the Power Rankings even with a 3-3 week. Carolina and New Orleans were the other winners as they both went 5-2. The Voodoo have now built a five game lead in the Lager over SDR, while Carolina is one of the surprises of the season as they move to 43-34. They only trail those pesky Bats in the Stout by 4.5 games as the Tobs pitching staff has been lights out so far this year. On the other end of the chart those Rum Runners went 1-5, while Maine, Toronto, Philly, and Baltimore won just two games.

    Performance of the Week

Nathan 'Missing Link' McKelvey - The 46th overall pick of the 2039 draft has turned into a top tier pitcher in the league for the Voodoo. On July 27th against Dallas he dominated the Drillers with a complete game shutout while striking out 10 and only walking one. Needless to say New Orleans won easily on the day 8-0. On the season 'Link' is now 7-5 with a 2.77 ERA and 0.88 ERA.

    Prospect of the Week

P Zack Timlin - Talking about late round draft picks how about Timlin. Baltimore picked him up in 2040 in the 7th round and he's worked his way up to the 63rd overall prospect in the league. Unfortunately for the Bulldogs he's now in Pawtucket as he was traded for Dustin Sisk in April of this season. He was 5-2 with a 3.43 ERA in A ball this season but just got called up to AA. In his first start he went eight innings, gave up no runs, and struck out three during a 6-0 victory.

    W: S. Holt L: C. Stone
In a pitching match-up that any fan loves to see it was Derek Bell vs Sean Holt in this Thursday evening game. Needless to say there wasn't a lot of hitting as Holt went eight innings and allowed only one hit, a single in the second by Rory Levin. Bell went 6.1 innings and allowed no runs, but was pulled in the 7th after getting Lucas Wilkins to ground out. Cole Stone came in and immediately walked speedster KJ Avery, who then stole second base. A single by Landon Campbell brought Avery around third and he was waved home. He beat the throw at the plate at it was 1-0 Carolina. In that end that was all they needed. Garret Clausnitzer came in for Carolina in the ninth, got two quick outs before a Chadd Cua double, but got David Tripp to fly out to end the game. A few days after his performance Holt was named the IL Pitcher of the Month. During June he was 5-1 with a 1.73 ERA.

Five Things We Think We Think

    1. The DK has become fascinated with A ball thanks in part to Barre and their losing streak...which now sits at 56 games. The Greys are now 1-62, with their only win coming against Evansville back in April. They are 0-30 at home, 0-23 vs LHP, and believe it or not only have a PYT of -4. They aren't even close to winning either as the average score of a game is 9-2. The locker room is currently feuding and several fistfights have broken out in the clubhouse. We have never seen anything like this.

    2. Christian Vines made his first start in 27 days on June 28th and it showed. Over the course of 5.2 innings he allowed four hits and two runs, while striking out 13. For a normal BLB pitcher that's a pretty good start but for Vines it was his first loss of the season. In 59.1 innings this season he has now racked up 111 strikeouts. Erik Foley leads the DL with 122 K's, in 118 innings pitched. His career average of 12.4 K/9 would place him second all-time behind only closer TJ Mileski. Among starters only Derek Bell is close as he checks in at 11.38 K/9.

    3. The DL currently has a combined ERA of 3.59, the lowest in history. The IL currently has a combined batting average of .238, the lowest in history. What has the league office done to the baseballs of the BLB!

    4. In the 'we really like to play these guys' category we have the following nominees: Pawtucket is 8-0 versus Indy, Montreal is 8-0 against Maine, Carolina is 6-0 versus New York, California is 7-1 against Baltimore, and Phoenix is 7-1 versus Batavia.

    5. Looking ahead at the 2046 FA class and we have a few big names (not counting opt outs): Montreal 3B Karson 'Super' Blair, Voodoo LF Sean Sayers, Toronto 3B Theo Mallen, Roadrunners P Gerold Schumacher, Santo Domingo P Sheng 'Admiral' Jong and P Harold 'Crabman' Valentine, and finally Whalers P Treshawn Cooks.

I thought I'd see the 2024 Kodiaks on that list... What a quick decline that group had... Alas, only 24 games worse!

    Great read Matt!
