The month of September is over, the 66th BLB regular season is over, and we're on to the playoffs! This past week the Voodoo and Drillers both went 3-0 to cap off the season, but the big winner was Philly who went 3-1. They were able to tie up Washington for the Stout division lead, then beat the Bats in game 163. The Freedom will now enjoy their first round bye as the Bats will await California.

Performance of the Week
P King Sadiraj - All though the Knights were out the playoffs in his last start of the season Sadiraj torched the Bulldogs with a complete game shutout. He allowed only two hits while striking out 10 as New York won 4-0. On the season he went 13-7 with a 3.47 ERA and 1.13 WHIP.
Prospect of the Week
P Braden Jordan - The 6th round pick from 2043 is currently the 87th overall prospect in the league and finished his season in the Rookie League with a 9-4 record and 1.85 ERA. He won his last five games, and in his last outing went 8 innings, struck out 10, and only allowed one hit. He throws high 90's, has a fastball, slider, and knuckle curve, and the stamina to go deep into games. Before getting drafted he helped UCLA win the 2032 College World Series and looks like he could be a late round steal.

Back to the GOTW though. In a game that featured only 10 hits, it was none other than 31 year old and 9x All-Star Rory Elia who had the biggest one. In the bottom of the 5th with Walker Schnur on third, Elia smoked a single past third basemen Justin Grim to bring Schnur home. As far as timely hits the Bats had none, as they struck out 14 times, and left 17 men on base. In the top of the ninth Freedom reliever Quincy Swaney, who was acquired via trade in August, came in to try and hold onto the lead. He got Hassan McDaniel to strikeout, gave up a single to Andrew Otero, and then got Cayden Huff and Justin Grim to ground into fielders choice to end the game and win the division title, Philly's second in three seasons.
Five Things We Think We Think
1. Congrats to Christian Vines for setting the single season record for strikeouts with 333. He also finished second all-time with an 11.4 WAR and second all-time with a 1.32 ERA. Vines won the pitching Triple Crown and should easily win the 2044 Import Pale Ale. Did we mention he's 26 years old.
2. With the BLB playoffs kicking off that means the minor league playoffs are over. In AAA Denver's Tuscon Toros beat out the Patriots. In AA Montreal's Moncton Mohawks took down the Rockford Playboys, in A ball Batavia's Hondo Owls beat New Orleans' Vicksburg Dirtbags, and finally in the Rookie League Toronto's Niagara Falls Rapids defeated Batavia's Rochester Monarchs. Considering Batavia had their RL and A team in the finals it looks like the Red Jackets monster is starting to emerge.
3. Rum Runners catcher Galen Rose won the DL batting title with a .336 average, while Denver's first basemen Johnathan Cathcart won the IL with a .312 average. The lowest average to ever win the title was in 1999 when Hartford Hall of Fame second basemen Chuck Durham hit .306. See the SOTD for all the batting title winners in descending order.
4. Batavia finished 5-20 in the month of September to take home the 2045 #1 overall pick. Indy went 5-21 but just couldn't make up the ground they lost during the Red Jacket's summer swoon. Who excelled in September. Pawtucket went 18-8, Phoenix went 17-9, and Philly went 16-9. Both the Freedom and Roadrunners are in the playoffs but Pawtucket ended up 79-83 and just missed out for the third straight year. They haven't been to the postseason since 2033, the longest drought in the BLB, but they are improving.
5. The wildcard match-ups are New Orleans at Dallas, Pittsburgh at Santo Domingo, Baltimore at Phoenix, and California at Washington. The season series belong to Dallas (8-4), Santo Domingo (8-3), Baltimore (6-5), and California (6-5). The DK's predictions (which are always wrong)...Dallas, Santo Domingo, Baltimore, and Washington.
