    Performance of the Week

P Derek Bell - No one cracked the Top Performances of the season this week but Bell made it last week against Baltimore on September 10th. In seven innings he allowed two hits, no runs, struck out 13, and only walked one in a 2-0 Roadrunners victory. On the season Bell is 14-6 with a 1.81 ERA, 0.92 WHIP, and is the favorite for capturing his third straight IL Pale Ale.

    Prospect of the Week

P Ryan 'Danger Man' Anderson - The 20th pick from the 2040 draft is currently in the Bats AA club where he is 4-2 with a 1.56 ERA and 1.19 WHIP in 19 starts. He throws five pitches, can hit 100 on the gun, and is the 21st overall prospect in the league. He looks like he could be a future #1, just what the Bats need!

The Pilots kept their playoff hopes alive on September 18th in a four and a half hour game that featured over 43k screaming Bats fan in attendance. Down 3-1 in the 7th the Pilots got a leadoff double by Albert Minks to get things going. Tavin King ground out but advanced Minks, before TJ Ellison singled to bring him home. Bradley Beehn then smoked a double to drive in Ellison and was later brought home by a Melchior Galasso single. Washington struck back though in the bottom of the 7th when Erwijn 'Moriarity' de Jong singled to bring in Cayden Huff. With the score 4-4 the game went another six innings before pitch hitter Ty O'Neil hit a double off of Joey Stennett which brought home Pat Nunes. In the bottom of the 13th Nathan Lamprecht got Elmer Caceres to ground out but allowed a single to Adrian Gramling. Lawson Oliver then came in to pitch and got a flyout before striking out Amos Apelian to win the game.

Five Things We Think We Think

    1. And down the stretch they come. In the Domestic the Snappers have locked up the Ale, while Montreal and Santo Domingo fight for the Lager and a first round bye. The teams don't meet in the final week and half and it's almost a coin flip who will take the division. The wildcard one through three will feature the loser of the Lager, then Dallas and New Orleans. The final spot is a battle between Pittsburgh and Maine. The Millers travel to Maine for the final series of the year in what could be some must see virtual reality TV.

    2. In the Import League Windy City has locked up the Bock, while Washington has an 86% chance of winning the Stout. It looks like the wildcard teams will be Phoenix, Philadelphia, Baltimore and California in that order, but Seattle and Carolina are now within three games of the Bulldogs and Kodiaks. The Pilots play both those teams this week as their season is on the line. The toughest remaining schedule belongs to California though who has to play Seattle, Washington, and Windy City. Hopefully for them the Blues are resting their stars and it helps the Kodiaks stop the bleeding. Since August 1st they are 16-28 and went from having a great shot at winning the division to possibly missing the playoffs.

    3. Christian Vines is now only nine strikeouts away from breaking David Rumsey's 66 year old record of 319 K's set back in 1978. The 26 year old Vines is 16-4 with a 1.41 ERA, 0.81 WHIP, and 269 ERA+ on the season. The lowest non-substance abuse ERA ever was Ed Carroll who was 18-8 with a 1.37 ERA back in 2021. Vines current 10.6 WAR is also fourth best all-time behind only Joe Ponte, Joe Aurillo, and the previous mentioned David Rumsey.

    4. RF Richie 'Powder' van Luik looks to have the stolen base title wrapped up considering he's swiped 73 bases, or 16 more than the second place tie in the Import between Red Jacket's speedsters Jason Kubiak and Dempsey Najera. In the Domestic the leader is New Orleans' Zak Marroquin who has 54. Luik currently has 564 career swipes, second only to Erwijn de Jong who has 572. Jong though is 32 while Luik is only 29. The record set by substance abuser Jerry Daly of 677 should fall in the next season or two by one or both of these guys.

    5. It looks like Batavia has wrapped up the 2045.1 as they have 45 wins to Indy's 49 wins. This Batavia team was two games under .500 at the start of June. Then they won six games...over the next two months. The were able to defeat nine hapless opponents in August but are 3-13 this month. Considering they have 343 prospect points according to the OSA we can only shudder at what 2050 Batavia looks like.
