06/20/2044
Pittsburgh, California, Santo Domingo, Philadelphia, New Orleans, Dallas and Carolina all went 5-2 on the week. The only team to do better was the Blues, who went 5-1. Meanwhile Syracuse goes 4-2 and somehow those snazzy Snappers move back into the PR top spot once again. Just a lot of love for turtles this year we suppose. On the other side of life Indy went 0-6 while Batavia and Denver went 1-5. Some team leaders for the week: SDR crushed 19 home runs, Montreal scored 45 runs, Toronto swiped 13 bases, Windy City gave up nine runs, Phoenix K'd 73 batters, and and opponents hit .185 against Toronto.

Performance of the Week
P Keon Cheatham - The Washington rookie tossed the third no-hitter this season, and second of the day, against Denver on July 18th. His game score of 93 squeaked past Jamie Stivers' perfect game score of 92 against LAD that occurred just hours apart. Cheatham is a former 8th round pick from the 2039 draft and is now 3-0 with a 4.30 ERA in 11 games and two starts on the season.
Prospect of the Week
SS Devon Keen - The first overall pick of last week's 2044 BLB draft premiered as the top batting prospect in the league, and #4 overall. The former NCAA All-Star from Duke hit 26 home runs over two seasons there and can play any infield position. Scouts think he has the eye and power to be a serious threat at the plate, and his college coaches raved about his work ethic.
Five Things We Think We Think
1. With Keen coming in at #4, and the second overall pick SP Joel Sawyer coming in at #15, the Red Jackets now have five top 15 prospects and 323 total points. Second place is Dallas...at 148 total points. In fact if you combine Dallas and third place New York together, you are still short almost 40 points from Batavia's system of future domination.
2. Looking at the playoff odds chart only one team has an average win total of over 100...Syracuse who comes in at around 107 wins, with a max win prediction of 116. The Snappers have a 9.5 game lead in the Ale, are led by the most dominant pitcher in the league in Vines, and are 1st in the entire league in runs allowed, home runs allowed, and opponents average, while only trailing Phoenix in strikeouts. They also have a R/D of +102, 32 more than second place California.
3. Since we talked about pitching, let's talk about defense. Currently California has a team ZR of +29.65, tops in the league. Wilmington is second at +26.98 and Syracuse is third at +25.62. On the other end of the spectrum New York is -28.07. The Knights only starter who is positive is catcher Julius Castanos at +0.03 and third basemen Jarryd Giles leads the league with 15 errors.
4. Last year the JD Rice watch was in full effect because he had a chance to break the home run record. This year the JD Rice watch is in full effect because he's on pace to hit .280 with 25 HR's. We still think Baltimore is a playoff team, and we also think that at some point Rice is going to wake up and start to punish IL pitchers. We will say a nice .300/35 HR season is in the future.
5. After hurting his hamstring in the off-season the Voodoo have welcomed back short stop Colby 'Mirror' Hullinger with open arms. So far in 20 games he is hitting .271/.400/.443 with 3 HR's and 9 RBI's. He has two straight seasons with a +8 WAR and New Orleans has been treading water waiting for his return. Currently they are 36-37 but only 1.5 games back from the final DL wildcard spot. With three of the top pitchers in the league in Seth 'Icebox' Cobb, Nathan 'Missing Link' McKelvey and Erik Foley this team only needs a spark and 'Mirror' could and should provide it.
