The snazzy Snappers are back on top with a 6-1 week that boasted a three game sweep of Pawtucket and taking three of four against Dallas. They are now 29-16 and lead the Ale by 5.5 games. Montreal also had a nice week by going 5-1 with a sweep of Toronto as they now lead the Lager by two games. Other successful weeks were had by Phoenix, Cali, Maine, NO, and Batavia who all went 5-2. On the other side of life Wilmington went 1-6 and Pawtucket went 1-5. Some weeks you are the hammer, some you are the nail.

Performance of the Week
P Zak Stewart - Stewart in Phoenix this season...0-5 with a 6.16 ERA. Stewart in Maine this season...2-0 with a 0.50 ERA. First on May 17th he pitched a four hit shutout against Pittsburgh, then on May 22nd he had a four hit, one run, 11 K performance against Indy. Those back to back performances come in 6th and 7th on the top pitching performances of the season.
Injury of the Week
SS Oscar D'Addona - The BLB injury gods were kind this week after a brutal start to the season. The longest injury we saw was D'Addona going down several weeks with a day to day biceps strain. The 3x DWI winner and 2039 champion with the Washington Bats is 36 now, but still one of the best defensive shortstops in the game.
Prospect of the Week
P Randy Butterfield - The 22 year old was a 3rd round pick in 2042 after playing his NCAA days for UCLA. In 2042 he helped lead the Bruins to the National Championship and was named both the Regionals and College World Series MVP. In his second year in A ball he is 5-1 with a 2.58 ERA in seven starts and coaches rave about his work ethic. He's currently the #92 prospect in the league but could be moving up the list shortly.
Five Things We Think We Think
1. Complete games this season...22. Complete games last week by Zak Stewart...2. We know we talked about him for the POTW but when you weekly stat line is 18 IP, 8 hits, 1 run, 1 walk, and 18 K's that is almost unheard of. Picked in the 2nd round of the 2033 draft by Washington he was sent to Phoenix in the Pat Nunes trade in 2037. He ended up playing four years in Phoenix and won 43 games before starting 0-5 this season and getting traded to Maine. Seems like the scenery change has paid off.
2. Batavia first basemen Dempsey 'Sandman' Najera was off and running this week, to the tune of nine stolen bases, including four in a 5-2 win against Philly on May 18th. The 2035 third round pick is in his fourth season with the Red Jackets and so far he's swiped 193 career bases at the ripe age of 26. His 23 for the season puts him just one off the leader, none other than Richie 'Powder' van Luik.
3. The College World Series is set as the Stanford Cardinals face off against the Texas Longhorns. Stanford was second in the Pac-12 this season behind USC as they finished with a 27-21 record. Meanwhile the Longhorns were able to sneak into the playoffs with a 24-24 record. In the CCBL the Cotuit Kettleers and Harwich Mariners are tied at a game a piece in the Cape Cup with the deciding game today.
4. Reid 'Ramrod' Cole has helped propel Windy City to the best record in the league, well combined with the fact that Dusty Borchers and Barton Mejia are a combined 13-2. Getting back to Cole though he currently has an 18 game hitting streak going, and over those 18 games he's hitting .434 with 7 HR's and 18 RBI's. Cole was the 9th pick of the 2037 draft and helped lead the Blues to the 2041 BLB title in his rookie season. He's averaging over 40 HR's a year and at 27 years old is just hitting his prime, a scary though for pitchers around the league.
5. Some interesting match-ups this week between teams that haven't played against each other yet. Philadelphia and Baltimore, and then Syracuse and Montreal both square off in a three game series. Then Washington and California meet up for a four game series. These teams will see each other 11 times over the course of the year so they better get real familiar real quick.
