Interleague was the theme of the week as each team played two 3-game series against some opposite league foes. The winners were Windy City, Denver, California, and Philadelphia who all went 5-1 on the week...with the Blues taking over the top spot in the power rankings. The losers were Pittsburgh and Santo Domingo who each went 1-5. Some team leaders for the week: Montreal scored 46 runs, Denver and Montreal each hit 11 home runs, Batavia swiped 13 bases, Windy City and Philly only allowed 16 runs, and Syracuse struck out 65 opposing batters.

Performance of the Week
3B Archie Thorington - The former Wilmington slugger said it felt good to be playing the DL again when on May 14th he hit two home runs and drove in four against Dallas. Unfortunately for the Red Jackets he was the only one to feel that way as the Drillers won easily 11-4. The four time All-Star is 34 and still has some left in the tank, as so far in 25 games this year he's hitting .323/.337/.479 with 3 HR's and 14 RBI's.
Injury of the Week
P Jordan Taylor - The 25 year old former 1st round pick left the game on May 9th against Batavia with elbow pain. Club officials later somberly announced he will need elbow reconstruction surgery and will be out at least a year. On the year he was 2-2 with a 3.63 ERA and 1.08 WHIP in seven starts.
Prospect of the Week
3B Jeramie Jackson - He doesn't look like much of a fielder, but he has scouts lining up over his potential with the bat. This past season he was named to the HS All-Star team as he's hit .297/.432/.588 with 12 HR's and 34 RBI's in 40 games this season.
Five Things We Think We Think
1. The Blues continue to win thanks to an offense that is 5th in AVG, OBP, SLG, and OPS...yet first in runs! This past week Dawson 'Wedge' Davis hit four home runs and drove in 14 over the six games, while Reid Cole hit .520 with 2 HR's and 6 RBI's to help out. Throw in Dusty 'Shameless' Borchers who is now 6-0 and Barton 'He Hates Me' Mejia who is 5-1 and Windy City has the best record in the league.
2. The best record in the league happens to be 28-11. The worse record in the league belongs to Hartford and Indy at 14-25, yet they are only five and a half back in the wildcard race. In the IL Phoenix is 14-24 and only five games back in their wildcard standings. A lot of parity means a lot of potential movement, both in trade transactions and the standings. No one is truly out of it yet.
3. The Rum Runners had a bad week but they hold the prize for the best deal in baseball. Currently starter Sheng 'Admiral' Jong is 7-0 with a 2.14 ERA and 0.88 WHIP while making a cool $34,000,000 this year. You know who writes his check each week, Maine owner Emilio Escobedo Jr. What makes it even worse for Emilio is the 'Admiral' never even pitched a game for the Guides. He was acquired in December of 2042 from California, then shipped off to Santo Domingo in January of 2043.
4. There is Christian Vines on the mound in the BLB, then there is everyone else. We're not talking about a small drop-off either. This season Vines is 5-1 with a 1.01 ERA, 0.56 WHIP, and 384 ERA+. His 92 strikeouts are 25 more than second place, and he's on pace for 392 K's and a 14.4 WAR. The record for K's is 319, and the highest pitching WAR ever was Joe Ponte back in 1979 when he posted an 11.9.
5. With the 2044 BLB draft set to kick off soon that can only mean we're deep into some postseason baseball at the high school and college level. In the NCAA we're down to the Regionals as only seven teams are left. FSU and Rice are tied at a game a piece in order to see who plays Stanford. While on the other side of the bracket both series between Clemon and Long Beach, and North Carolina and Texas are tied at 1-1. In the Cape Cod league the Harwich Mariners have already advanced to the Cape Cod Cup and are waiting the winner of Cotuit and Wareham. Meanwhile at the High School level the Alac C Pope Generals have a 1-0 lead over the Notre Dame Knights in the championship series. We look forward to watching the future stars of the BLB compete for their respective trophies.
