  • The 2044 Daily Keg - Week 3

    04/25/2044

The Snappers have fallen from grace...all the way to the #3 spot...thanks in part to a 4-3 week. Seattle moves into the top spot with a 5-2 week, which is what Montreal and Santo Domingo went as well. The best record in the league though belonged to Windy City and New Orleans, who go shooting up the list thanks to winning six out of seven. The Blues swept Phoenix and went 3-1 against Baltimore, while the Voodoo went 4-0 against Hartford and 2-1 against Toronto.

    Performance of the Week

3B Logan Jacobi - The 3rd pick of the 2033 draft has been an anchor for the Kodiaks for the last decade. Two All-Star appearances, three DWI's, and two championships have made him one of the faces of the franchise. At 31 he continues to be the man and it showed this last week against Batavia when he racked up an amazing three home runs and nine RBI's during a 13-2 drubbing of the Red Jackets. His 123 game score is one of the highest we've seen in quite a while.

    Injury of the Week

P Caesar Kubweza - Another brutal pitching injury for the Exports as they lose Kubweza for eight months with a torn flexor tendon in his elbow. He left the game against Pittsburgh on April 22nd after throwing only 16 pitches and was diagnosed after an MRI. Rumors are that the team trainer was later seen running down the hall with the angry GM following behind.

    Prospect of the Week

P Jonas Harville - The Kettleers are 28-12 and running away with the Western in the CCBL thank to starters Harville and Johnathan Sook. In eight starts Harville is 5-1 with a 3.92 ERA, 1.33 WHIP and 13.72 K/9. Scouts are a little worried about his work ethic, but when you throw the ball 100 mph with three solid pitches and the stamina to be a starter, certain things can be overlooked.

Five Things We Think We Think

    1. Last season the BLB had six players hit three home runs in a game, and the year before only three did it. This season we are 20 games in and we've already had three players do it, as previously mentioned Logan Jacobi and Wilmington's Cayden Huff both did it this week, and Kyle 'Salesman' Olmsted did it last week. Averages are down, home runs are going up. It's the year of the strikeout and long ball.

    2. The Phoenix GM has been threatening a fire-sale after the worst start in the league. The Road Runners won 103 games last season after winning 90 each of the previous two. This year they are 5-14. Rumors are that Cade Hogan will be coming back up from AAA, and maybe Jae'Sean 'Flamethrower' Ismael should join him. The second overall pick of the 2040 draft is already 24 and many believe it's time to see what he can do. He can hit 100 mph on the radar gun, he throws four solid pitches including a forkball, and he's one of the hardest workers on the team. Let the kid play!

    3. When Logan Jacobi drove in nine runs this week in a single game he tied the IL record held by six other players. In the DL though the record is 10, which has been accomplished
three times. Hall of Famer Tex Watts did it in 1998, Hall of Famer Ray Davila did it in 2008, and Gil Mandell did it in 2036.

    4. Richie 'Powder' van Luik is 28 years old and still in the prime of his career. So far this season he's hitting .333/.395/.406 with nine stolen bases, and his one yesterday against Philly gave him 500 for his career. He's on pace to finish around 565 this season, or only 112 short of all-time steal leader Jerry Daly's 677. The problem with these speedsters is that they start breaking down in their 30's, but we think this is one record that has a good chance of getting broken in the next three to five seasons.

    5. After being written off this off-season by management, the Barton Mejia watch featured a six inning, two run performance against Baltimore where the Blues pulled it out late and he got a no decision. Four starts, 3-0, a 1.73 ERA. The new watch though might be for Pawtuckets Rayburn Michel who is 4-0 with a 2.79 ERA in four starts. He's now had nine wins in a row without a loss, and passed Mejia who is still back on eight.
