  • The 2043 Daily Keg - Week 4

    05/04/2043

The Baltimore Bulldogs go a perfect 6-0 and take over the top spot in the PR. After trading for Kennedy Hashim from Pittsburgh the Bulldogs are 10-2 and now only a game behind the Washington Bats. Wait...what's this! They were upstaged by the Hartford Whalers? It looks like the Whalers went 7-0 with sweeps of Montreal and Wilmington as they outscored their opponents 41-21 to take the Ale lead. Other nice weeks were Washington who went 5-1 and New York who went 5-2. On the other side of life those poor mentioned Exports went 1-6 while Indy, Phoenix, California, and Toronto all went 1-5.

    Performance of the Week

C Dave Bright - Who? That was the question on most peoples mind when they heard that Bright hit two grand slams against Phoenix in a 15-1 drubbing off the Roadrunners on April 30th. The 9th round pick by the Bulldogs in 2035 (214th overall), actually played in 108 games last season for Baltimore and is currently outperforming free agent pickup Aden 'Liquidator' Grant. At 25 years old he is often referred to as the "loud-mouth" of the locker room but if he keeps driving in eight runs a game no one will care.

    Injury of the Week

CF Tom Stark - What can stop the runaway Blues train...injuries. At 36 years old the 6x All-Star is no stranger to injuries but usually they don't sideline him too long. This time on April 28th against California he got hurt in the top of the 1st chasing down an Ezra Chalmers fly ball to end the inning. He was taken to the training room, and later diagnosed with a strained hamstring which should keep him out several months. On the season the former 1.1 of the 2027 draft is hitting .232/.316/.406 with 3 HR's and 12 RBI's.

    Prospect of the Week

1B Amric Robinson - The 17 year old can't field worth a lick but he has the potential to be an all-star slugger in the BLB. The 2x HS All-Star is hitting .379/.471/.789 with 17 HR's and 38 RBI's in 40 games. At 6'4 and 200 lbs he is very raw, but scouts love his effort and he could be a top ten pick.

Five Things We Think We Think

    1. JD Rice almost left Baltimore this off-season but decided to sign with the Bulldogs for $179m over six years. Some wondered if he would hold any resentment towards Baltimore for not getting the deal done last year during the season. Well if he does he's taking it out on opposing pitchers. So far in 25 games he's hitting .402/.458/.928 with 14 HR's, 28 RBI's, and a 2.5 WAR. He's on pace for a 91 HR/181 RBI season which is always fun to talk about after the first week of April, but is usually dust in the wind after the first week in May. Did we mention the 8x All-Star and 2x Stout Slugger has a 17 game hitting streak and has scored in 13 straight games. Goodness.

    2. We missed it last week but Wilmington's Aman Djorovic threw a no-hitter against Pawtucket on April 22nd. He struck out eight and his only walk was against Roddy Sierra to start the top of the 5th. After last year saw three no-hitters, the most in the league since 2035, getting one in the first month is a promising start.

    3. After JD Rice hit six home runs and won the IL POTW and IL Batter of the Month do you know who won the DL POTW? If you guessed his old slugging mate Dominique Graham you'd be correct. The 26 year old is now in his 3rd full season with the Snappers and he's hitting .366/.445/.710 with 8 HR's and 23 RBI's in 26 games. Traded to Syracuse in 2040 for the 1st overall pick of the draft many Baltimore fans still dream at night about a lineup with Rice and Graham pounded opposing pitchers into nothingness. Somewhere Andy Phillips cries himself to sleep after another day in the bullpen.

    4. The playoffs are upon us...well at least in the feeder leagues. At the high school level they have completed the first round and are onto the Sweet 16. Meanwhile both the NCAA and Cape Cod have three games to go before their playoffs begin. Why is it everyone's favorite time of the year? Well because we all know those playoffs signal that the 2043 BLB Draft is right around the corner.

    5. This is a fun week in the BLB schedule wise. To start the week Baltimore travels to Washington for a three game series, and New Orleans travels to Santo Domingo for a three game series. To end the week Pittsburgh travels to New Orleans for a three game series, and Syracuse travels to Santo Domingo for a four game series.
