04/13/2043
And we are off as the 2043 BLB campaign starts with a bang. This week was the have and the have-nots as Montreal, Windy City, Phoenix, California and New Orleans all went 6-1 to open the season. Meanwhile Denver, LAD, Batavia, and Pawtucket all went 1-6...and poor Wilmington went 0-7. Don't worry though Clowns fans, we all know that JJ Plumley will go 15-0 over July/August/September and the Clowns will win the Ale. Some teams leaders for the first week: Windy City and Washington hit 13 home runs, Montreal and Washington scored 43 runs, Syracuse and Philly swiped 10 bases, California only allowed 13 runs, and Montreal struck out 68 opposing batters.

Performance of the Week
3B Chance Maki - The 23 year old former first round pick lit up Hartford on April 8th to the tune of three hits, one home runs, five RBI's, and three runs scored during a 12-3 Guides victory. He got called up last season late and played in only 20 games, so his New Brew campaign is off to a strong start.
Injury of the Week
CF Chet Sanchez - On April 8th against Batavia he strained his ACL legging out an RBI double in the 5th during the Bats 11-2 victory. The 4x All-Star, 3x DWI, and 2039 DL Stout Slugger is expected to miss at least six weeks...which is a blow even for the powerhouse Bats.
Prospect of the Week
P E.J. Hilderbrand - The CCBL junior is projected to be a top pick in the upcoming draft as he turns 20 in just a few days. So far this year he's 1-0 with a 3.86 ERA in seven starts as scouts rave about his work ethic and leadership skills. He also throws an amazing six pitches and can hit 100 mph on the speed gun.
Five Things We Think We Think
1. After suffering an injury plagued 2042, Snappers ace Christian Vines started out 2043 quite well. In two starts he went 2-0 with a 0.71 ERA and 0.47 WHIP. Last season he still managed to go 13-2 with a 2.58 ERA and we would love to see what he can do over the course of a full season. The OSA seems to agree as he's currently the #1 rated pitcher in the BLB.
2. One OSA top player who hasn't found a team yet is 39 year old Javy 'Blur' Gudino who has been keeping in shape in his hometown of San Juan. As one of the most accomplished players in BLB history, (12x All-Star, 11x DD, 2x DWI, 1 Brewmasters) will someone take a gamble on the legend who will turn 40 this season? He's still extremely popular and could help put fans in the seats for a struggling team with a little leftover cash.
3. In the final bit about the OSA Top Players how about those Windy City Blues. With six players currently in the Top 20 who can compete with this team? Batters Dawson Davis, Reid Cole, Sean Sayers, and Jimmy Doss are joined by pitchers Barton Mejia and King Sadiraj. Seattle comes in with five, while California and Pittsburgh have four each. Maybe the Blues could add 'Blur' to get to lucky seven.
4. The BLB minor leagues take the field this week as GM's around the league are trimming down their rosters to get ready to play. With age limits and expanded rosters you can only have 113 in your organization and many a hope and dream will soon be shattered. Meanwhile the next wave of future BLB hopefuls have been playing for several weeks as the NCAA, CCBL, and HS teams are all 30+ games into their year.
5. The BLB voted last season for the 2042 Hall of Fame class but the inductions were put off until Opening Day 2043 due to logistical issues. With that being said we'd like to welcome new inductees Dave Harmony, Manny Nieto, Dylan Owens, and Jamie Kitchen.
