  • The 2042 Daily Keg - Week 25

    09/29/2042

    Man a guy goes and visits Mars and comes back to find the Philadelphia Freedom atop the power rankings and Stout champions! This is the first time the Freedom have won the division since they did it back to back in 2016 and 2017. A fine job indeed by their GM who has taken this team from 58 wins in 2039 and increased that number each season since. They are currently at 99-60 with the second most wins in the BLB and were tied for a league best 6-1 this past week. Other big 6-1 weeks were had by Washington and Syracuse. The Bats will finish second in the Stout this season and even at 93-66 might end up traveling for a wildcard match-up depending on how these last three games go. Syracuse meanwhile will travel for their wildcard series but have done just enough to secure their third straight postseason appearance.

    Power Rankings

    1) Philadelphia Freedom (123.1, +)
    2) Seattle Pilots (122.3, o)
    3) California Kodiaks (113.7, +)

    8) Wilmington Clowns (107.4, --)
    9) Montreal Exports (98.9, -)
    10) Phoenix Roadrunners (98.5, ++)
    11) Windy City Blues (94.2, --)
    12) Dallas Drillers (92.2, -)
    13) Pawtucket Patriots (90.0, ++)
    14) Santo Domingo Rum Runners (88.8, o)
    15) Baltimore Bulldogs (82.6, --)
    16) Denver Bulls (81.7, ++)

    22) Maine Guides (52.0, o)
    23) Batavia Red Jackets (50.9, o)
    24) Indianapolis Racers (44.5, o)

    Player of the Week

    RF Xzavier 'Blockhead' Medellin - It's not often you have the #2 hitting performance of the season nearly in October but on September 28th against Carolina ol 'Blockhead' had four hits, one home run, and drove in an amazing nine runners during a 15-1 Roadrunners victory. The 25 year old was the 11th overall pick in 2034 and is hitting .296/.363/.504 with 31 HR's and 98 RBI's for the season.

    Injury of the Week

    P Damian Crawford - The 27 year old left the game on September 26th and was diagnosed with a strained oblique, which will keep him out for the rest of the season and playoffs. On the season he was 1-1 with a 4.09 ERA and 1.05 WHIP in 55 innings of work.

    Prospect of the Week

    P Denard Brown - The 49th overall prospect in the league was the 47th overall player taken in the 2038 draft when he was selected by the Kodiaks. He was a 2040 Rookie League All-Star, a 2042 Bush League All-Star and finished the season 6-1 with a 0.76 ERA and 1.11 WHIP.

    Five Things We Think We Think

    1. Ryan Hubbard might make all the DK's dreams come true if he can hit one home run in the final series against Hartford. So far this year Hubbard has 39 home runs and 40 stolen bases, and would become the first ever BLB player to join the 40/40 club. The last time we were this close was 2036 when Seth Blankenship hit 42 home runs and stole 39 bases, and Manny Quezada hit 44 home runs and stole 37 bases. So far this season in eight games against Hartford he has failed to hit a home run...so either he's cursed or he is due.

    2. I'd like to take "Wilmington for $200 Aaron" as we continue to look at the Clowns. Not only do they lead the Ale by a game over Pittsburgh but JJ Plumley has made the term 'en fuego' appear only lukewarm. In his last 23 starts he is 14-0 with a 2.10 ERA. Are you kidding me? No wonder Wilmington went 37-16 in July and August and Plumley has all but locked up his 5th career Pale Ale. His 7.8 WAR is over two points higher than second place in the DL, but still almost two points lower than some guy named Mejia's over in the IL. That's ridiculous to think about as well.

    3. We were traveling through space when we checked in and saw that New Orleans at one point this month won 17 in a row and are now an absurd 23-3 in September. Starting September 4th they swept Denver, Santo Domingo, Pittsburgh, Toronto, and Hartford before losing to Dallas on September 22nd. They are now first in the Lager by a game over Montreal who has to be thinking...what happened? On August 23rd the Voodoo were a .500 team, they are now 23 games over .500. They are ranked #7 in starters, #1 in relievers and short stop Colby 'Mirror' Hullinger is arguably the best position player in the game and leads all hitters with a 8.2 WAR. Sooner or later water always finds it level right?

    4. Congrats to our minor league champions. In AAA the Vancouver Thunderbirds captured their first title since 2035 with a sweep of the Reno Railers. In AA the Tuscaloosa Yellowhammers swept the Auburn Venom for their first trophy since 2009. In A ball the Hondo Outlaws swept the Los Cayos Jellyfish for their first title since 2027. Finally in the Rookie League the Chandlers Firebirds captured their second straight crown with a 2-1 victory over the Cleveland Bobcats. The Firebirds were down in game three 2-0 but scored three in the 7th and three more in 9th to win the title game going away.

    5. After looking at 2041's numbers instead of 2042's numbers the DK had to retract our attendance report. Getting old is hard. This season the Dino's lead all teams with over 3.4 millions fans who have visited Jurassic Park. Seattle and California though are less than 40k behind and with the Pilots being the only team playing at home this weekend they will more than likely be declared the winner when all the tickets have been punched.

    We have high hopes for Brown, but that half season he had in AA was ridiculous!

    Great read as always Matt!!
