  • The 2042 Daily Keg - Week 18

    08/11/2042

In our post All-Star break we missed a few weeks but we are back and the BLB is better than ever. It appears as if the IL still holds a strong grip on the Power Rankings, as they currently hold three of the top four spots with Seattle and their 71 wins coming in first. Hot teams this week were Wilmington, Windy City, Seattle, and Santo Domingo who all went 5-1 in interleague play. Meanwhile Hartford went 0-6 while Syracuse and Batavia struggled to a 1-5 week. Some team leaders for the week: Carolina and New York hit 12 home runs, Baltimore racked up 74 hits, Dallas scored 50 runs, Phoenix only allowed 12 runs, Philly and New Orleans struck out 58 batters, and Seattle held opponents to a .205 average.

    Performance of the Week

3B Dalton Maring - When Maring got word he was replacing Elmer 'Bane' Caceres in the lineup this week he was more than nervous. Then in his third ever BLB game he racked up four hits, six RBI's and a home run in an 11-2 win over Philly. The 23 year old was the 7th overall pick of the 2036 draft out of Notre Dame HS and spent seven years in the minors before finally getting his shot. He's known as being a prankster and is already quite popular with the local fans (and ladies). So far so good...keep it up kid.

    Injury of the Week

P Max Connolly - The 24 year old former 2nd round pick was 9-6 with a 4.50 ERA in 22 starts this year but will be shutdown for the remainder of the year due to forearm inflammation. This is the third Knights pitcher who will have missed significant time and probably the death blow for a 53-58 team who was playing hard and competing for a wildcard spot.

    Prospect of the Week

P Cade Hogan - The rich get richer as Phoenix already boasts arguably the top staff in the BLB and has the 23 year old Hogan sitting in AAA. So far this season he is 6-2 with a 2.35 ERA and 0.99 ERA in 13 starts and is the #3 prospect in the league. He was the 5th overall pick of the 2039 draft, throws four pitches, and can easily reach the mid-90's on the gun.

Five Things We Think We Think

    1. Congrats to Pat 'Melody' Nunes who hit his 300th career home run this week against Baltimore. The 33 year old signed with Dallas this off-season after spending the previous five seasons with Washington. He's a 5x All-Star, 3x DD winner, and helped the Bats win the 2039 Brewmasters.

    2. Some huge trades this week saw Elmer 'Bane' Caceres get shipped to California and Louie Dano Dasmarinas get shipped to Seattle as the race for the Bock heats up. Combined those two have 11 All-Star appearances and two Stout Sluggers. Both were soon to be free agents and New Orleans and Pittsburgh stated they had no plans on offering extensions. Talk about a major power shift from the DL to the IL.

    3. Someone who did get an extension this week was Richie 'Powder' van Luik. The 27 year old is the best corner outfielder in the BLB and just got a 5 year/$100m contract to show it. He's the captain and leader of the team and his work ethic and 'cojones' are admired by all. This season he's hitting .382/.465/.559 with 8 HR's, 46 RBI's and 49 SB's while putting up a 4.7 WAR. He's a 5x All-Star and won the 2039 Stout Slugger when he hit .402/.463/.562. This was a steal of a deal for Seattle and a great job by their new GM.

    4. Seattle has the best record in the league but also a Pyt of +9, the next closest is Denver at +6. In the unlucky group New Orleans is -9 and those scrappy Bats come in at -5. Most of Seattle's good luck comes from being 20-9 in one-run games, with only the Rum Runners having more one-run victories as they are 22-10 on the year.

    5. Dawson Lamb is putting together quite the year for Dallas. He's now won 11 straight games and is 14-3 with a 2.84 ERA in his rookie season. He was originally a 4th round pick by Toronto in 2039 but was traded to the Miami Baseball Team six months later in the Dusty Schmidl deal. He now looks like he could be an ace in the making for a team that is 58-56 and has the best minor league system in the BLB.
