  • The 2042 Daily Keg - Week 9

    06/09/2042

Those lovable Millers hold onto the top spot as Santo Domingo goes flying up the charts with a 6-1 week. Seattle went 5-1 while Dallas, Pawtucket, Pittsburgh, Windy City and Phoenix all went 5-2. On the other side of life Washington and Montreal went 1-5 while Maine went 1-6. Some team leaders for the week: Phoenix allowed only 14 runs, SDR hit 17 HR's and scored 64 runs, Denver swiped 11 bases, and Toronto struck out 77 opposing batters.

    Performance of the Week

2B Josiah Weir - The former 1st round pick back in 2036 turned in the #1 hitting performance of the season on June 6th against Maine. In four at bats he had four hits, one home run, drove in six, and scored three times in a 16-1 Rum Runners victory. This is his fourth season in the BLB where he has primarily served as a backup, but this season he has moved into the starting role as short stop.

    Injury of the Week

P Shawn Allison - In a relative injury free week for the BLB the Bulldogs suffered yet another pitching injury, but only a mild one, as they lose Allison for 2-3 weeks due to back tightness. The 24 year old had to leave the June 3rd game against Washington after giving up a home run to start the sixth but MRI's showed no significant damage. On the year he's 4-2 with a 3.36 ERA and 1.20 WHIP in 10 starts.

    Prospect of the Week

P Huston Cooper - The 17 year old was discovered out of Germany in February by Baltimore scouts and whisked back to the US. He's now on the Bulldogs rookie league team and is 2-0 with a 3.38 ERA in six games and one start. Sadly he went down with an abdominal injury a few weeks ago but should be back soon. He premiered as the #92 prospect in the league but is already up to #84. Scouts think he has the stuff to be a top ace down the road but he has a long way to get there.

Five Things We Think We Think

    1. It's been a long time since we've seen Philly in the #1 spot in the Stout but here they are. Sitting at 35-24 and two games above Washington the Freedom last won the division...in 2017! We aren't going to crown them quite yet but it's been an impressive turnaround by the GM. Rumor is they are shopping for a top flight starter and are willing to pay.

    2. It's been a few years since Barton Mejia won the Triple Crown so he's about due right? After going back to back in '38 and '39 he had a disappointing 2040 (16-6, 2.45 ERA) before he was able to rebound and win the 2041 Pale Ale (17-7, 1.99 ERA). This season he's 7-2 with a 2.09 ERA and 0.97 WHIP and leads the BLB once again in ERA and K's. His run of BLB champion in November and then WBC champion in February wasn't too shabby either. Four Pale Ale's, seven All-Star appearances...at only 29 years old. Hopefully he hired some contractors to install some extra shelving for awards as he could go another decade.

    3. Maine is 17-42 and in a battle with Batavia for the #1 pick in the 2043 draft, but they do have SS Timmy Ungureanu currently on a 25 game hitting streak. The discovery out of Hungary in 2034 started for the Guides last season, played for Europe in the 2042 WBC, and has been the lead off hitter for Maine all season. During this streak he went from hitting .254 to .313 and he's been one of the only bright spots for Maine so far this season.

    4. Congrats to Toronto outfielder Robert 'Stretch' Jessee who hit his 300th career home run on June 2nd against Indy. The former 1.1 pick of the 2031 draft has been a 7x All-Star, a 6x Designated Driver, and a 2x Stout Slugger award winner. Did we mention he's only 28 years old? His 162 game average so far in his career is .318/.393/.590 with 43 HR's and 129 RBI's.

    5. We are back to interleague this week as we get some fresh new match-ups. Washington travels to Santo Domingo, California travels to New Orleans, Seattle travels to Montreal, and then Montreal travels to California. Any of those could be a 2042 Brewmasters Cup preview and we're ready to watch them all.

Great stat of the week... Driving in runs is not a specialty in California... Tom Wright and Mike Morla (with 3x each) are the only two Kodiaks ever to turn that feat more than twice in a row!

      Great read Matt!
