In another week of interleague the Blues regain the top spot after going 4-2 against their Domestic competition. With California going 3-3 and hitting nine for sixty-one with runners in scoring position the Blues now hold a half game lead in the brutal Bock. The teams though that vanquished their opposite league foes were Baltimore and Toronto. The Bulldogs swept Dallas and won two of three against Indy while Toronto swept Carolina and won two of three against Batavia. That's a 5-1 week for you non math majors. On the other side of life Syracuse went 0-6 while Denver and Carolina went 1-5. I'ts just a week though fellow fans, as we all know things can change rapidly in the BLB.

Performance of the Week
P J.J. Plumley - The 3x Pale Ale winner and 8x All-Star tossed the 6th best performance of the season on August 7th against Washington. In 8 innings he allowed two hits, walked none, and struck out 10 during a 5-0 Clowns victory. On the season he's 11-3 with a 2.30 ERA, 0.84 WHIP, and 5.2 WAR. He currently leads the Domestic in ERA, strikeouts, and only trails Erik Foley by two wins for the pitching Triple Crown.
Injury of the Week
2B Jimmy Doss - On August 2nd against Pittsburgh there was a mighty collision at second on a fielders choice that left Doss reeling on the ground. He was replaced by Dave Bickford and was taken to the hospital for x-rays. It turned out he had only strained his rib cage but will miss at least a month. On the season the 29 year old is hitting .332/.395/.497 with 7 HR's, 41 RBI's, and 33 stolen bases.
Prospect of the Week
LF Erick Timmons - The 19 year old was a second round pick by Batavia back in 2039 and has really turned it up this year. In 74 games he's hitting .343/.415/.480 with 8 HR's, 43 RBI's, and a 2.8 WAR. This season he's won POTW three times, Batter of the Month once, and was a Rookie League All-Star.
Five Things We Think We Think
1. The players of the week were D.J. and J.D...as in DJ Osburn for Pittsburgh and JD 'Hurricane' Rice for Baltimore. The slugger for the Bulldogs hit .440 with 4 HR's and 11 RBI's as Baltimore won five straight and took a one game lead over Philly for the final IL wildcard spot. Osburn meanwhile hit .500 with 4 HR's and 6 RBI's, including a three HR game, and helped Pittsburgh take the Ale lead by one game.
2. We had one of our first brawls in a while this week between California and Hartford. In the top of the 6th during their August 7th match-up Foster Cornish smashed a three-run home run off of Whalers pitcher Benton Cottle. He was removed from the game and in trotted Walden Glos. He threw one pitch, at Kodiaks slugger Logan Jacobi, and the fight was on. After order was finally restored they were both tossed and later suspended four games by the office of the commissioner. Jacobi is hitting .274 and leads California with 24 home runs while Glos is a 24 year old up and coming reliever who is 5-3 with a 4.12 ERA in 45 games.
3. The Snappers Chase Grant and Pilots Bradley Beehn have both been doing the ultra-rare feat of pitching and hitting this year. Grant is hitting .228/.304/.404 with 7 HR's and 24 RBI's, while also pitching in 17 games with a 1-1 record and a 2.76 ERA. Beehn is hitting .279/.328/.410 with 2 HR's and 10 RBI's in 19 games while being 10-6 with a 3.73 ERA as a starter.
4. New Orleans and Santo Domingo are still battling for the Lager with the Voodoo currently holding a 5.5 game lead over the Rum Runners. They have only played three times this season though with the next three game match-up coming this week. After that they meet six more times before the season is over. Looks like the fans are in for a treat as they battle it out down the stretch.
5. We haven't been on the 40/40 watch in a while but last season Wilmington's Ryan Hubbard hit 38 HR's and stole 62 bases, and many figured he'd be the first ever to join the club. This season he's swiped 48 bases but is 'only' on pace for 29 home runs. The Blues outfielder Tom Stark is on pace for a 30/30 year, but sadly that is it.
