  • The 2041 Daily Keg - Week 14

    07/15/41

The Blues traveled over to the Domestic, swept Hartford and Pawtucket, and promptly took over the #1 spot in the power rankings. Syracuse meanwhile traveled over to the Import, got swept by Denver and lost two of three to California, fell to #7, and lost the Ale lead. How the mighty have fallen. Don't worry too much though Snappers fans, at 58-32 you have the second best record in the league behind Wilmington. Other big weeks were had by those Clowns who went 5-1, while Seattle and Denver went 5-1 as well. Phoenix was the lone win less team while Pittsburgh, Pawtucket, Indy and Hartford all went 1-5. Some team leaders this week: Windy City hit 13 HR's and scored 53 runs, Seattle swiped 11 bases, Windy City posted a 1.33 ERA and only allowed eight runs, and New Orleans struck out 66 batters.

    Performance of the Week

3B Chris Pineda - The 35 year old still has a little pop in his bat as he turned in the #2 performance of the season on July 11th against Baltimore. In five at bats he had four hits, two home runs, six RBI's, and scored four times in an 11-10 victory. The reason it was a victory was because Pineda hit a grand slam in the bottom of the ninth off of Tad Magnanti that traveled 357 feet and sent the home crowd into a frenzy. On the season the former four time All-Star and 2029 champ is hitting .258/.295/.472 with 20 HR's and 57 RBI's.

    Injury of the Week

P Tom Dingman - He was traded from Hartford to Baltimore at the end of May and was 3-4 with a 4.64 ERA for the Bulldogs before having to leave the game on July 10th with shoulder pain. He was diagnosed with inflammation and will be out at least two months. The former first round pick by Batavia back in 2027 has played for five teams, been to one All-Star game, and has a lifetime record of 137-120 with a 3.95 ERA. This is a big blow for a Baltimore team who has a very solid shot of making the playoffs.

    Prospect of the Week

P Trevor Kempka - The 23 year old was a 3rd round pick back in 2035 and looks like a potential ace. He throws 100 mph, has three very good pitches, and is currently the #28 prospect in the league. He was a reliever his entire career but switched to starter this season where he is learning the ropes. Even at 4-6 with a 4.48 ERA and 1.30 WHIP scouts love him and think the skies the limit.

Five Things We Think We Think

    1. On July 9th against Santo Domingo J.D. 'Hurricane' Rice launched his 300th career home run. At only 29 years old he's on pace for 40 home runs this season, which would be his lowest since he hit 27 in his rookie season back in 2035. He's now 105th all-time and 310 behind BLB record holder Jamie O'Hearn. His 162 game average though is 48 so if he keeps this pace up he would break the record in 6.5 years.

    2. Washington's Edgar Alonzo was a four year starter in the BLB and a huge reason the Bats were 2039 champions when he hit .324 with 6 HR's and 14 RBI's during the playoffs. He's now playing in AAA after being demoted for future star Adrian Gramling. Talk about running a team with your head and not your heart. Reports are that Alonzo is furious but it sure hasn't effected his play. This past week during a game against Bakersfield he drove in 8 runs during an 11-5 victory and is currently hitting .433 with 8 HR's and 23 RBI's in only 17 games. Meanwhile in Gramlings 17 games he's hitting .387 with 5 HR's and 16 RBI's. Sorry Edgar but it doesn't look like you are getting your job back anytime soon.

    3. Speaking of the Bats we said a few weeks ago that they could have a double digit lead going into the break...well they currently sit 11 games ahead of the Freedom. In the Ale, Wilmington leads Syracuse by a half game. In the Lager, New Orleans leads Santo Domingo by four games. In the Bock the Blues and Kodiaks are tied for first. I guess three outta four divisions being up in the air still will have to do.

    4. The Import won interleague this week by the margin of 42-30 over the Import. They now hold the season advantage as well 150-138. Considering they have won four of the five last championships should we just put our money on the Blues, Kodiaks, or Bats now? Goodness is this the all-Bats edition or what.

    5. The 2041 BLB All-Star game will be played this week on July 19th in New Orleans. Pat Nunes has taken over J.D. Rice as the top vote getter in the IL while Elmer Caceres still leads the Domestic. Some players who should make their first appearance: SS Preston Capps (MON), C Aden Grant (WAS), 2B Jimmy Doss (WC), RF Owen Kleindienst (BAL) and Drew Ansell (SEA).
