  • The 2040 Daily Keg - Week 15

    07/23/2040

    A short week means there wasn't much change as Seattle goes 2-1 to remain atop the Power Rankings. We did have a few perfect weeks though as Batavia, Toronto, and Santo Domingo all went 3-0. The Rum Runners only scored 10 runs, buy they gave up just 6 and that was enough. Meanwhile Toronto decided to go the hard route and gave up 17 runs but scored 27. On the flip side the three teams they faced were Montreal, New Orleans, and Baltmore. Not their GM's favorite way to end things before the All-Star break but such is life.

    Power Rankings

    1) Seattle Pilots (130.2, o)
    2) Washington Bats (119.9, o)
    3) Batavia Red Jackets (115.3, +)
    4) Pittsburgh Millers (107.5, -)
    5) Windy City Blues (106.6, -)
    6) Santo Domingo Rum Runners (106.5, ++)

    8) Philadelphia Freedom (97.9, +)
    9) Montreal Exports (97.0, --)
    10) Wilmington Clowns (93.7, -)
    11) Maine Guides (91.9, ++)
    12) California Kodiaks (90.7, +)

    23) Baltimore Bulldogs (63.9, --)
    24) Dallas Drillers (44.8, o)

    Performance of the Week

    P Blake Morris - The 24 year old was the 5th overall pick by California in 2036 out of UCLA and this is his third season in the BLB. He's progressively gotten better every season and this year he's 7-6 with a 2.92 ERA and 1.12 WHIP. On July 24th against Phoenix he turned in the #24 best performance of the season when he went 8 innings, allowed one hit, one run, and struck out 8...and took the 1-0 loss. Ouch.

    Injury of the Week

    P Louie Reutter - He went from the trading block to the injury list when he ruptured a finger tendon against Indy on July 17th. It was by far his worst outing of the year as he allowed 6 runs in only 3.1 innings of work and took the loss. The 33 year old will be gone for 3-4 months and will more than likely miss the rest of the season. For the year he was 7-8 with a 3.36 ERA and 1.35 WHIP.

    Prospect of the Week

    3B Jaxson Neal - This last week he hit .320 with 4 HR's and 10 RBI's with a 1.233 OPS, which puts him up to .264 with 14 HR's and 51 RBI's for the season. Originally hailing from the British Virgin Islands he was signed by Montreal for $5.5 million back in 2034. He's worked his way up the system and at 22 years old is in AA and was just named to the All-Star game. Looks like another future star for the 1st place Exports.

    Five Things We Think We Think

    1. The 2040 All-Star game was played this past week at Henry Byrd Field in New Orleans and the IL easily dispatched the DL 5-0. Nine Import pitchers combined for the 4-hit shutout and Denver's Ben Clewley was named the POTG after he recorded two hits and two RBI's in three at bats. Considering the Domestic has lost three of the last four Brewmasters Cups as well it's been quite an IL run lately.

    2. The resurgence of Oscar D'Addona has continued after he hit .600 this past week and is now hitting .292 with 6 HR's and 18 RBI's in 42 games. His batting average had dropped every single season since 2035 when he hit .261 to the low of .204 last year. Considering he's still one of the best defensive shortstops in the game it's just a bonus for the scrappy Bats that he found his bat again.

    3. The playoff odds have Pittsburgh, Montreal, Seattle, and Washington as locks to make the postseason. Other teams with at least 90% are Santo Domingo, Wilmington, Batavia, Windy City, and California. That leaves two spots in the Domestic and one in the Import as teams will battle it out over the second half of the season. One surprise is Denver who at 46-48 is at 0% due to an opponent strength of schedule of .533, the highest in the entire BLB.

    4. If anyone had their money on Lucas Wilkins leading the BLB in home runs with 33 at the break they are big winners, because the odds on favorite was JD Rice who sits in 8th place with 25. Wilkins was a 4th round pick back in 2030 and has blossomed into the premier slugger in the league. In his 2037 rookie season of 51 games he hit four home runs. The next season he hit 23, then 39 last year, and now he's on pace for 57 while hitting .297 and playing both left field and first base. At only 27 year olds he's just coming into his prime and could be a force to reckon with for years to come.

    5. Congrats to Hall of Fame inductees Matt 'Stallion' Healey, Jamie O'Hearn, Tom Driggs, and Pat Goldsmith. They were enshrined during the 2040 All-Star break and will live forever in the halls of the BLB greats.
