In our second interleague week of the season it was the Santo Domingo Rum Runners who came out on top with a 5-1 week. After a sweep of Phoenix on the road they came home and took two of three from Seattle, last week's #1 in the PR. Over the last two season the Rum Runners won 57 and 62 games and it's probably safe to say that at 23-15 the losing days are over. On the other side of life Toronto, Phoenix, and Baltimore all went 1-5. All three teams are either in or near the cellar of their division and it's time to turn things up a notch before the season slips away.

Performance of the Week
3B Logan Jacobi - Against Syracuse on May 15th he turned in the #2 hitting performance of the season when he recorded three hits, drove in six, and scored four times in a 17-2 victory. On the season the 27 year old is hitting .289/.343/.477 with 5 HR's and 17 RBI's while starting 31 games at second base.
Injury of the Week
P Henry Williams - The 5th overall pick of the 2035 draft was in his third season in the BLB and looked like he was turning the corner into a solid starter. Then on May 18th disaster struck when he had to leave the game in the 3rd with shoulder pain. He was later diagnosed with a torn UCL and will miss at least the next year rehabbing. On the season he was 2-2 with a 3.94 ERA and 1.14 WHIP in eight starts.
Prospect of the Week
P Cole Stone - The 8th overall pick of the 2038 draft, and 2nd overall prospect in the league, was also lost to a ruptured UCL this week and will miss the rest of the season. He was a Rookie League All-Star last season and even though he was 0-3 this season in six A ball starts the organization is obviously crushed to have to deal with this. At 22 years old though he still has time to make a recovery and be a solid BLB starter in the future...if he can stay healthy.
Five Things We Think We Think
1. What a trade this week as the Syracuse Snappers sent the 1st overall pick in the upcoming draft to Baltimore for slugger Dominique Graham. With JD Rice already holding down the first base spot the Bulldogs had a dilemma with what to do with the young slugger, and they made the choice to ship him away. Will this be a win for Syracuse who could have acquired a future Stout Slugger, or will Baltimore turn the pick into a perennial All-Star and possibly Hall of Fame selection? Maybe in the end it's a win for both.
2. Speaking of Baltimore what a season JD Rice is putting together. Forty games in and he's hitting .424 with 14 HR's and 36 RBI's, which is tops in every category in the league. He's on pace to hit 57 HR's and 146 RBI's and post a 13.1 WAR. As historic as that sounds just remember that in 2030 Turell 'Two Ton' Morris hit 69 HR's and drove in 168 runs.
3. Currently in the BLB the success rate for stolen bases is hovering around 74 percent with the Seattle Pilots leading the way with 52 swipes. The man, myth, and legend Richie 'Powder' van Luik leads the entire league with 28 of those and he hasn't been thrown out once. He's projected to reach 116, which would decimate the record of 92 that he set last season.
4. The surprise of the season so far might be the Maine Guides who are 23-17 and tied for first in the Ale. The last time the Guides had a winning record was 2034 when they went 89-73 and made the playoffs. Since then they have averaged 61 wins a season and have been trying to rebuild. The second biggest surprise of the season might be the Toronto Canadians who are 16-24 and in last place in the Lager. Over the last three seasons Toronto has won 89, 90, and 95 games and was a favorite to win the Lager and make a playoff run. They are currently #1 in runs scored, but #10 in runs allowed and newly acquired closer Ethan Jackson is 0-4 with a 10.13 ERA.
5. Poor Yuri Baldwin of the Roadrunners. Over eight starts he's 1-3 with a 2.42 ERA and 0.93 WHIP. His main issue is that his run support a game is at 0.9 runs, worst in the league among starters. Maybe he could get some tips from Baltimore's Jakob Drobot who sports a 4.97 ERA and 1.54 WHIP, but has a 5-2 record due to his 6.0 RSG. Those pregame coffees he buys for the team must be the secret.
