  • The 2040 Daily Keg - Week 3

    04/30/2040

Parity has come to the BLB...well at least through three weeks. Usually by this part of the year there are a few standouts, both good and bad, but nothing so far. This week though we did have two teams who played better than the rest as Montreal and Seattle both went 6-1. The Exports shot up to the top of the Power Rankings while Seattle climbed to fourth. Montreal now leads the Lager by 2.5 games while Seattle trails the Blues by a half game in the Bock. Meanwhile poor Pawtucket went 0-7 on the week, as they were swept by both Pittsburgh and Montreal. It's never fun to have a week like that but at least it was against two division leaders and not Syracuse. Wait...what's this...Syracuse is 11-9 and two games out of first?! The times are a changing!

    Performance of the Week

P J.J. Plumley - Guess who's back, back again. After a rough 2038 and a rebound 2039 (17-5, 3.31 ERA), Plums is looking to snatch back the Pale Ale with a vengeance. On April 25th against Hartford he continued his angry barrage with 8 shutout innings where he scattered six hits, struck out 13 and only walked one. Wilmington easily won 9-0 and Plumley moved to 2-0 with a 2.33 ERA and 1.26 WHIP in four starts. He has now won 11 straight decisions going back to last season.

    Injury of the Week

2B Killian Pena - After spending the last four years in LA, and hitting .347 last season, Pena signed a one year deal worth $15,000,000 this off-season with the Knights. Things have started out slow though but were getting better after he homered and doubled earlier in the game. Then it all came to a halt after he was beaned in the 9th by Danny Ley and left the game. At first trainers thought it was broken but an x-ray was negative and he was diagnosed with a bone bruise. The organization later stated he should only miss several weeks.

    Prospect of the Week

1B Adrian Gramling - The 71st overall player taken in the 2038 draft has turned into the 53rd overall prospect in the league and is crushing A ball right now. Yes they are only 11 games in but his .417/.472/.792 with 5 HR's and 12 RBI's is impressive nonetheless. Last season he was the Rookie League 'Outstanding Hitter' and it doesn't look like the 19 year old is slowing down.

Five Things We Think We Think

    1. Abdul-Fattah bin Burhan was discovered by Maine back in 2026 out of Iran. He ended up becoming a free agent in 2033 and signed a four year deal with Santo Domingo. In true fashion for the Rum Runners he made it two years before being traded to Miami. He played four season there sparingly before not being offered arbitration this last winter and becoming a free agent. He got no takers and Wilmington picked him up on a minor league deal. He's now their starting second basemen and is hitting a surprising .400, but apparently hasn't learned the sign yet for "stop stealing". In 14 attempts he's been thrown out 8 times, double the four of the current second place trio of Capps, de Jong, and McCann.

    2. Meanwhile Dallas apparently found their own speedster in center fielder Harold Delgado. The 26 year old can turn the lights off and get in bed before it's dark, and it has shown on the base paths this year. So far in 14 steal attempts he's a perfect 14-0. He's projected to go 113-0 to finish the season and we're pulling for him!

    3. Did someone mention playoffs! Because if they did look no further than the HS playoffs which kicked off recently with the Sweet 16. Then keep looking as two more leagues start postseason action as both the NCAA and CCBL are on the last week of their season. In the NCAA four time champion Florida State has been at the top of the league all season and at 31-12 have clinched the ACC and #1 seed. We're certainly excited to see how the future top picks of the upcoming draft stack up against each other.

    4. Reports out of Denver are that we might have a Wang sighting this upcoming week! No the GM isn't going back on Virtual Reality Zoom after last seasons embarrassing gaff, we're talking about Saul Wang. The 22 year old and 2nd overall pick of the 2038 draft was just playing in A ball last season where he won the Outstanding Pitcher award. He is now in AAA and looks to be ready for the show and we think he will be a star.

    5. Carolina had some great seasons but as of late they seem to be on the downward slope. They are battling though and at 9-10 are tied for second in the Stout behind Washington. Currently the one race the GM doesn't want to see though is who can win a game first between Jack Christensen and August Bay. Since last year Bay has lost 12 straight decisions while Christensen is at 11. Jack Boy this year has five starts, is 0-1, and sports a 5.85 ERA. Bay meanwhile in four starts is 0-3 with a 6.27 ERA. In fact between the top four Tob starters they have only won one game.
