(AP) - The Voodoo are the toast of the town as they go 6-1, push their record over 100 wins, and solidify the #1 seed in the DL and home field advantage throughout the playoffs. Not a bad week to say the least. Other good weeks were Washington, Hartford, and Toronto who all went 5-1. The Bats have held off Batavia and still lead the Stout by a game, Hartford is now only two games back from a DL wildcard spot, and Toronto has locked up the DL's #1 wildcard spot. On the not so great side Santo Domingo goes 0-6 and has moved into the six spot for the 2040 draft.

Performance of the Week
P Barton Mejia - It's the same, same old song...when Mejia takes the mound that is. This time he casually turned in the #2 pitching performance of the season on Sep 18 against the New York Knights during a 4-0 victory. He took a no-hitter to the 9th inning before finally surrendering a 1-out hit to Mason Mayfield. Final tally...11 K's, one walk, one hit, no runs. Pale Ale and Triple Crown here we come.
Injury of the Week
LF Seth Blankenship/3B Wolde-Selassie Gahiji/CF LaVernus Contreras/C Micah Gordon/P Demetrius Insua/RF Erwijn 'Moriarity' de Jong/LF Jordan 'Rascal' Reeves
Since we missed last week we did not cover what single handily might be the worst injury week in the last decade, if not longer, in the BLB. Blankenship...3.2 WAR, Gahiji...3.7 WAR, Contreras...4.0 WAR, Gordon...1.5 WAR, Insua...3.7 WAR, de Jong...2.7 WAR, and Reeves...2.0 WAR, will all at least miss the start of the playoffs or more. Since we are catching up on Game of Thrones since the final book in the series was released last month, even the Red Wedding had nothing on this.
Prospect of the Week
P Keaton Kroll - He just transferred to LSU after going to HS at a prep school then spending a year at a JC. Scouts are amazed at his 6-pitch repertoire and believe he'll be able to reach 100 mph's soon on the gun. He's currently the #1 ranked pitcher in the NCAA and will be eligible for the 2040 draft.
Five Things We Think We Think
1. The race for .400 is still on as Johnny Thompson...er...what's this? Well it looks like Thompson couldn't handle the pressure as his pitiful .327 line in September now has him hitting .396 on the season. Well it was worth a try. Hold on...a fax just came in. It now appears that Pilots teammate Richie 'Powder' van Luik has not only become the #1 batter in the BLB, but his .500/.521/.824 September has him hitting an amazing .405 on the year. All he needs are 10 more hits over Seattle's remaining nine games to become the first .400 hitter in BLB history. In other 'Powder' news he is also up to 84 steals on the season, second most all-time. He only needs three more to tie the 61 year old record. In other other 'Powder' news the BLB record for hits is 251, which was set by California's Joe Lopez in 1995. Richie now has 233 on the season and is projected to reach 247. Just hand him the Stout Slugger now.
2. The Miami Baseball Team lost their last three but overall are still 11-5 in September, 76-76 overall, and have a 96% chance of making the playoffs. Looks like their new GM has them playing defense and pitching with authority, the hallmark of a successful organization. They have a tough three game series against New Orleans coming up (unless the Voodoo go full rest mode), but then play Pawtucket and SDR to finish the season. We predict an 82-80 season and with that a 2039 Brewmasters Cup victory!
3. The minor league playoffs are in full go as the Mobile Minotaurs (DEN) have been crowned the first champion this season after winning the Rookie Cup over the Delmont Miners (PIT). In AAA, AA, and A the playoffs are down to the final four as each series has played one game so far in the best of three.
4. JD Rice won IL POTW and hit four more HR's last week, giving him eight this month and 49 overall. He is on pace now to hit 50 or more each of the last three seasons. Only two other players have ever even hit 50 or more home runs in three total seasons, with only one of them going back to back to back. Can you name them?
Spoiler
5. Wilmington this season has a +41.6 ZR for their team, California is second at +39.5, while Miami comes in third at +25.0. All three are playoff teams. The bottom of the barrel belongs to Phoenix who is at -72.8 and Carolina at -59.5. Those two teams can look no further than Bruce Viggiano (-21.7 ZR) and Martin Christensen (-20.0 ZR) for the blame.
