(AP) - Batavia, Wilmington, and Pittsburgh all went 5-2 this past week while Carolina went 1-6 and Syracuse went 1-5. Everyone lost at least two and everyone won at least one in this newer friendlier BLB. The Red Jackets are now only a half game behind Washington in the Stout, and even though Wilmington couldn't make up any ground on Pittsburgh in the Ale they moved into the second wildcard spot in the DL. Syracuse meanwhile continues to hold off Phoenix and Philly for the #1 draft pick in the 2040 draft.

Performance of the Week
P Sheng 'Admiral' Jong - The Admiral threw the second no hitter of the season on August 26th against the team that originally drafted him, the Denver Bulls. Over the nine innings he struck out 11, walked two and no runner ever made it past first base. The 2034 Pale Ale winner is a five time All-Star and helped lead the Rum Runners to the 2033 Brewmasters Cup championship. The year he is 15-7 with a 2.81 ERA and 5.2 WAR and would be a serious contender for the Pale Ale again if there wasn't someone named Mejia in Windy City.
Injury of the Week
P Toby Chandler - The 23 year old rookie came in on August 22nd against Washington and pitched well over 2.2 innings before giving up a Colin Bailey solo home run, grimacing in pain, and promptly leaving the game. Thankfully for the Bulldogs he was diagnosed with back tightness and will only miss two weeks. The 3rd round pick of the 2033 draft by Toronto was traded to Baltimore in 2037 and was a Horizon League All-Star this year before being called up to the bigs on August 1st.
Prospect of the Week
P Kyle Perry and P Patrick Love - Perry was drafted by Windy City with the 11th overall pick of the 2036 draft. Love signed a minor league contract with Toronto after being undrafted in 2035. The thing they have in common is both of the them threw no-hitters on August 26th for their respective A ball clubs. Perry struck out seven and walked four in a 2-0 victory over the Kingston Indians, while Love struck out nine and walked four in a 4-0 victory over the Erie Roadrunners.
Five Things We Think We Think
1. The race is still on as Johnny Thompson is hitting .407 with 23 games remaining. Only getting 62 bats so far against lefties he has manged to stay just ahead of the required number to qualify and looks like he has a legitimate shot. The BLB hasn't been on .400 watch since Jaime Rush hit .393 in 2028 and Mike Morla hit .390 in 2027. If Thompson can handle the pressure and squeak out a .369 average down the stretch the 24 year old and former 3rd round pick will go down in history.
2. In other history news Barton Mejia basically has his second straight pitching Triple Crown locked up and will be the first player in the history of the BLB to accomplish the feat twice. He is 20-2 with a 1.81 ERA and 233 strikeouts, which gives him the lead in wins by five, ERA lead of 0.42, and a strikeout advantage of 58. At 26 years old he will win his second straight Pale Ale as well and third overall of his career. This guy has a great shot of ending up as the most dominant BLB pitcher in history.
3. The Rookie League playoffs start this week while AAA, AA, and A ball all start next week. This season is the first with the expanded playoff structure that mimics the BLB and was voted in by GM's last off-season. All four of the series are now best of three as teams will battle for the Horizon Cup, Lautering Trophy, Bush Championship and Rookie Cup.
4. Congrats to Miami Baseball Team outfielder Zachary Bradley who recorded his 2000th hit on August 24th against Indianapolis. The 4th overall pick of the 2024 draft by Syracuse played for the Slammers from 2026 to 2030 before being traded to the Freedom. He then began a whirlwind existence where he was traded to Santo Domingo in 2032, won a Brewmasters Cup in 2033, was traded to Pawtucket in 2034, traded again to Baltimore in 2036 and then became a free agent after getting hurt and declining his option. He was signed by New York in 2038 to a one year deal and become a free agent again before being signed by Philly in April and then traded to Miami in June. He is a six time All-Star and won two Designated Driver awards in the outfield before age and injuries forced him into the DH role.
5. The last interleague match-ups of the season are upon us this week. In a possible Brewmasters preview the Seattle Pilots travel to play the New Orleans Voodoo as the two teams with most wins and identical records square off. This is the last week before roster expansion and we're curious to see how hard these two go after each other. We also get to see Batavia travel to Wilmington, Baltimore battle Montreal, and Toronto fly down to Los Angeles. So far the IL has dominated the DL this season so lets see if the Domestic can right the ship.
