(AP) The Kodiaks were the king of the mountain this past week as they went 7-0 with sweeps of Phoenix and New York. Those two teams are now a combined 14-26 which means they are exactly the games a team like California has to win, considering five of the six Bock teams already have double digit wins. The other big weeks belonged to Batavia and Indianapolis who both went 6-1. Indy is now tied for the Lager lead while Batavia leads the Stout and the Power Rankings. Meanwhile Phoenix went 0-7 and find themselves already 7.5 back in the previously mentioned bloodbath known as the Bock.

Performance of the Week
P Erik Cortese - Originally drafted by Wilmington back in 2026 he's been a mainstay starter of the Clowns staff going on 10 years now. He has six pitches in his repertoire, throws upper 90's, and makes only $1.7 million a year. To top it off on April 21st he turned in the #2 performance of the year against Santo Domingo with a complete game, one hit shutout, where he struck out six and walked none. Wilmington won 6-0 and Cortese is now 2-2 with a 2.57 ERA on the year. Oh the one hit...it was in the bottom of the 9th with two outs as Rum Runners shortstop Nicklaus Palomino hit a triple.
Injury of the Week
C Dusty Akkerman - The champs claimed Akkerman in September of last year and signed him to a six year extension worth over $60 million a few weeks later. He wasn't eligible to play in their postseason run but got a ring none the less. This season he is hitting .147/.237/.324 as some say he's been trying to hard in order to justify the extension. Things didn't get better on April 18th against Wilmington when he got beaned by Clowns pitcher Reed Patterson, broke his thumb, and will be out at least 4-5 weeks.
Prospect of the Week
C Christopher Starr - Coaches say "he just wants to play baseball" and the 20 year old catcher for the Aggies is doing just that. So far in 39 games he's hitting .370/.425/.593 with 8 HR's, 22 RBI's, and 166 wRC+ in his first college season. At 6'3", 210 lbs he looks like he could be a force behind and at the plate for years to come.
Five Things We Think We Think
1. The top four batters according to our friends at OSA are 25 year old Rory Elia, 22 year old Joey Robertson, 23 year old Richie 'Powder' van Luik, and 25 year old Robert 'Stretch' Jessee. Thirty year old Pat Nunes makes an appearance at five while 26 year old JD Rice comes in at six. Talk about a youth hitting movement in the BLB.
2. Some old faces found some new (and sometimes old) places this last week. Zachary Bradley signed a one year deal with the Freedom worth $2.5 million while Dusty Janson signed a one year deal with the Rum Runners worth $2.65 million. Bradley, a first round pick in 2024, is 35 while Janson, a first round pick in 2023, is 36. Scouts think both of them can still contribute and we're excited to see what the 'old guys' can do.
3. Dinos starter Ethan Braunscheidel has now lost 11 games in a row dating back to last season. After starting off 8-1 last year he lost eight in a row to finish 8-9 with a 3.46 ERA. This year he is 0-3 with a 9.00 ERA. Did we mention it is also a contract year? He doesn't have the loss lead though as Run Runners reliever Ian Olsen is now up to 15 in a row. Last season with Baltimore he was 2-1 before ending up 2-16 with a 6.75 ERA. This year he hasn't posted a win or loss but in four games has an 18.41 ERA.
4. This is the last week in HS baseball and the second to last week for the NCAA and CCBL. Pacific and Cal both lead the NCAA with 27-12 records, while Orleans sports the same 27-12 record in the CCBL. In HS ball Gulfport is 28-10 while 15 teams will battle for seven playoff spots over the final two games.
5. The WBC will take place in 2040 and teams have started to release logos and jerseys. This week it was Latin America:
