  • The 2038 Baseball News Network Light Beer Awards

The 2038 year isn't yet in the books but the award ballots have been cast. With Matt producing the Brewski's at the end of the year, I thought putting out something early would be beneficial. Plus, if I'm going to write this every year it gives me a wide range of time to complete it. Maybe it's out the first week of September? Maybe the last week of August? Maybe even after the season? I'll complete it when I can. Maybe if it gets enough traction it can be bought out by the Brewski's or we can get our own cool logo. The Baseball News Network is excited to announce the 1st (hopefully) annual Light Beer Awards Show... light on insight and even lighter on content.

    *edit*

This article was supposed to be a lot longer. With not only long blurbs about what each award means specifically, what each winner did above the rest but also runners up. Links. Photos. Colors. Slick format. Somehow I just lost it after putting the final touches on it. I'm not even sure what happened. Podcast format is the future to avoid shit like this. But, in the ultimate irony, these awards are very light this year. Ultra light. Enjoy FWIW.

A few things. Sorry that you lost most of the content but thank you for putting in the time.

    1. Can you still take the time to define the Who? *Brad, no smart answers. We all know the band.
    2. How do you determine defensive player of the year? Would love to know what you look at for this.
    3. The GM history is so messed up! Not your fault.

Good stuff. We didn't win any awards, but after another embarrassing playoff collapse, we probably didn't deserve any.

Denver had an impressive year after their time in salary purgatory. Better than I expected, but I would have anticipated fewer moves to go for it and a slower ascent.

        1. The Who is the best player who I assume no one is familiar with based just on their name. Also prerequisite of not being "well known" or higher nationally, having been an All-Star, not a rookie, likely not 2nd year guy, not a top draft pick, not a top prospect, and not someone who signed for a huge international bonus. Just an under the radar player who had a really good year. Garcia was like the best SS in the DL and I don't think half the GMs know who he is.

        2. Defensive player of the year was just comparing all the stats of the top defenders. Kocurek had like 3 errors in 700 chances or something. That's unheard of at a position that's not 1B.

        3. No, great year by you. Considering the amount of moves made, and the fact that Denver was projected to have the lowest win total of any playoff team in the Preseason Predictions. Also made the playoffs out of the toughest division in baseball.

I meant that the GM history in OOTP is messed up. It just shows my failures. And it says that we lost 4-0 in the league championship in 2009 which isn't true. We actually lost in the Brewmasters that year.
