  • The 2038 Daily Key - Week 21

    08/30/2038

    (AP)

Six teams tied for the best record in the league as Philadelphia, Washington, Indianapolis, Hartford, Pawtucket, and Seattle all went 5-2. The Racers used that week to take over the lead in the Lager by half a game, Pawtucket is now only 7.5 back for the final DL wildcard spot, and Hartford and Seattle has built solid division leads. Meanwhile Washington just keeps on rolling with the best record in the league and Philly has gone 7-3 in their last 10 and are now only ten games under .500. On the flip side Santo Domingo went 0-7, are 52-80, and will more than likely lose over 90 games for the first time since 2023.

    Performance of the Week

2B Colter 'Hotrod' Kobayashi - The 22 year old was 23rd pick in the 3rd round of the 2036 draft and has only been in the BLB for 22 games. On August 29th though against Pittsburgh he chalked up three hits, two home runs, six RBI's, and scored twice in a 14-7 walloping of the Millers.

    Injury of the Week

RF Darrien Rojas - On August 23rd in the 1st inning against Pawtucket he went from second to home on a Run Hutchison single and was safe in a play at the plate. Afterwards Rojas limped to the dugout and was removed from the game. He was diagnosed with a high ankle sprain and will be gone at least a month. On the season the 31 year old is hitting .293/.369/.473 with 18 HR's, 80 RBI's, and a 3.2 WAR.

    Prospect of the Week

C Bear Monay - With one of the greatest names in the BLB universe Monay came into the league from El Salvador and was signed by Dinos scouts. He is currently the #71 prospect in the league and playing for their Rookie team where he is hitting .255/.335/.426 with 5 HR's and 25 RBI's.

Five Things We Think We Think

    1. August can make or break a season and with the month almost over the Racers have been declared the early winners with a 20-8 record. All though they posted an ERA of 4.57 they led the league in runs, average, OBP and SLG. Seattle went 18-10 to build a lead in the Bock while Carolina and LAD both went 16-10. Those two are now in second place in their respective divisions and are near locks to make the playoffs.

    2. The race for the IL Refreshing New Brew seems to be over as Washington's 1B Blake Hartman has put on quite a show. In 108 games he's hitting .276/.363/.610 with 38 HR's, 97 RBI's, and a 4.4 WAR. He was the 23rd player selected in the 2033 draft and won the 2036 AA and 2037 AAA Outstanding Hitter Award's. He also leads the BLB in strikeout percentage at 29.3% but scouts think he has room to grow in that department...which is scary for pitchers everywhere.

    3. Speaking of the Bats they are also now in position to wreck Barton Mejia's quest for the third pitching Triple Crown in league history. Mejia leads the IL with a 1.97 ERA and 220 K's but his 16 wins are now behind Washington's Ian Ammons who is 17-3 with a 3.24 ERA and 1.17 WHIP on the season. It helps that Ammons gets 4.0 in run support a game, which is actually third for the Bats behind Fredrick Wilson's 4.7 and Alan Allen's 4.6.

    4. The last interleague match-ups of the season take place this week. Some great series are Indy at LAD, Hartford at Carolina, Toronto at California, Seattle at New Orleans and Denver at Toronto.

    5. Roster expansion is upon us as BLB teams go from 26 to 28. It is a long cry from days of old where some teams would suit up 40 players but the reinforcements could help out a few teams. We are interested to see if some organizations bring up their minor league stars or let them finish out the last two weeks competing for a AAA or AA championship. Time will tell.
