  • The 2038 Daily Key - Week 17

    08/02/2038

    (AP)

The reigning champs go 6-1 but as everyone knows it doesn't matter...because this is the Year of the Bats! Those pesky Bats from Washington also went 6-1 to cap off a 19-6 July and build a 14 game lead in the Stout over the aforementioned Tobs. Other nice weeks were Windy City who went 5-1 with a sweep of New York, while New Orleans, Hartford, Indy, and Toronto all went 5-2. In breaking news Syracuse and New York both broke their losing streaks as the Snappers went 3-4 and the Knights went 1-5. Alas it was not a good week for Maine, Pawtucket, and Phoenix who all went 1-6.

    Performance of the Week

P King Sadiraj - On July 30th against New York he pitched a two-hit shutout with nine K's and only two walks as the Blues won 4-0. The 24 year old from Macedonia was signed by Chicago scouts in 2032 and worked his way up to the BLB this season. So far in 19 starts he is 9-5 with a 2.89 ERA, 1.05 WHIP, and 150 ERA+. Scouts still think he has a lot of room to improve and if he does it will form a powerful 1-2 with Barton Mejia, the scouting discovery from Guatemala. Look for other organizations to start spying on the Blues.

    Injury of the Week

P Pat Moore - The Kodiaks have been injury free all season so when Moore went down July 27th with a strained hamstring many people did a double take at the news. What was even more unusual was that Moore hurt himself after striking out the first batter of the game. Jordan Reeves of Chicago went down swinging and Pat just hobbled to the dugout. He is expected to miss about a month. On the year he is 7-6 with a 4.33 ERA and 1.48 WHIP in 19 starts.

    Prospect of the Week

P Tiernan 'Garbage' Parker - The 21 year old was 12th overall pick last season by Los Angeles and is currently playing for their A ball team. In 18 starts he is 5-9 with a 4.86 ERA, 1.55 WHIP and 1.3 WAR, and is at exactly 100 innings pitched. His work ethic is loved by his coaches, he throws four pitches, and he can reach 98 on the radar gun. Currently he is the #25 prospect in the league.

Five Things We Think We Think

    1. Miami's Geoff Dail was on pace to crush the stolen base record of 677 held by Jerry Daly, and due to Daly's past was being rooted on by many. Sadly though since 2036 he's stolen only 22 bases, with only two of them coming this season. If you don't remember Dail stole an unbelievable 428 bases over seven seasons from 2026-2032 but then began to slow down. He's now 37 years old and sitting at 646, only 31 short of tying the record. The next man up might have to be Jaime Rush who is 33 years old and has 592 swipes to his name, including 25 this season already.

    2. We haven't heard a lot from Carolina this season. They had a small ceremony at the beginning of the season honoring their 2037 Brewmasters Cup and then moved on. One person who has been extremely quiet that they need to be loud though is center fielder Rory Elia. On the top players listed he was recently passed for the top spot by Washington's Pat Nunes and apparently didn't like it. This last week he hit six home runs and drove in 10 as Carolina went 6-1. On the season though he's hitting .269/.332/.517 with 27 HR's, 67 RBI's and a 2.7 WAR. Those are his worst numbers since 2035 when he missed four months with a partially torn labrum. His manager stated he is healthy so we aren't sure what the problem is, but we do know that he needs to keep it going if the Tobs have any chance to repeat.

    3. On July 30th when Montreal traveled to Pittsburgh the fans didn't know they were in for a game that would last a little over two and a half hours and feature three total hits. One by Montreal's Gianluca Pallavicini in the 3rd, and two by Jon Santiago of Pittsburgh. Santiago had one in the 6th on an infield hit where he drove in Edwin Cantu, and a solo shot in the 8th inning. That was it. Final score was 3-0 Millers.

    4. You know who did get a treat this week, the 36957 fans that attended the Racers home game against Pawtucket on August 1st. After over four and a half hours of play they saw their home team win 23-6 while racking up 28 hits. The best part was only one of those hits was a home run, an 8th inning shot by Kaden 'Crunchy' Gaston that made the score 21-3.

    5. A quick look at the playoffs odds has Washington at 100% to win the Stout, Hartford at 99% to win the Ale, New Orleans at 84% to win the Lager, and Seattle at 70% to win the Bock. Wildcard locks in the DL appear to be Indy, Miami and Toronto with the final spot between Pittsburgh, Montreal, and Pawtucket. In the IL the wildcard locks appear to be whoever doesn't win the division between Seattle/California, and Batavia while Carolina, LAD, Denver, and Windy City fight it out for the final two spots.

Diego Flores holds that record by making the playoffs with seven teams but also had a second stint with Baltimore (2003-2006 and 2016). #Winning
