With everyone playing six this week we had four 'winners' as Phoenix, Windy City, Carolina, and Los Angeles all went 5-1. We also had three 'not so winners' as Montreal, Miami, and Santo Domingo went 1-5. Some team leaders for the week: Baltimore scored 51 runs and swiped 11 bases, Seattle gave up only 15 runs, Pawtucket hit 12 home runs, Phoenix only gave up three home runs, LAD hit 6 triples, and Washington struck out 62 opposing batters.

Performance of the Week
RF Lucas Wilkins - A week after we got the #1 performance of the season by Dave Hoyt we have Wilkins turn in the #2 performance on May 11th against Wilmington. In a 12-1 Red Jackets victory he recorded three home runs, drove in eight, walked once and scored three times. On the season the 25 year old is hitting .280/.368/.695 with 10 HR's and 19 RBI's.
Injury of the Week
RF Sacco van Gorp - The 28 year old from Aruba strained his oblique running the bases on May 14th and is expected to miss another month and a half recovering. This season he was off to his best start ever by hitting .331/.367/.605 with 11 HR's, 25 RBI's and 6 SB's in 37 games. He was selected to his first All-Star game last year and this one hurts for the Roadrunners who find themselves only three games under .500.
Prospect of the Week
P Corey Galindo - At only 20 years old the junior at Arizona State is in his first and more than likely only season at ASU. With a fastball that reaches triple digits this 6'8 closer that hails from Cuba has the chance to be one of the most imposing pitchers in the BLB. In 19 college games he's 3-0 with 6 saves, a 0.00 ERA, and 44 K's to only 7 BB's. His ERA+ is 999.
Five Things We Think We Think
1. The Brewers Fight Club kicked off this week with bouts that featured Washington and Hartford on May 12th and Montreal and Philly on May 15th. The Freedom's Tom Gowans received the biggest suspension, an unheard of 12 games, after he beaned Jamie Waldron in the head following a Logan Wilcher home run in the bottom of the 8th. Philly ended up scoring four runs that game in the top of the 9th to take a 6-4 lead. With two outs in the bottom of the 9th though Kayron Reyes singled moving Ron Brazil to second base. Giovanni Morgan then took the first pitch by Patrick Burgess over the wall for an Exports walk-off three run home run.
2. Another big week for JD Rice who cracked 5 home runs, drove in 13, and even scored the winning run in the bottom of the 13th against Pittsburgh on a Jon Santiago single in a 13-12 Bulldogs victory. Rice has turned into the premier power hitter in the league and will head to his fourth straight All-Star game this year as he's hitting .353/.420/.756 with 19 HR's and 44 RBI's in only 38 games. 'Hurricane' is on pace to hit 81 home runs and drive in 188. He was the 12th overall pick in the 2029 draft out of Poly Prep HS and just turned 26 years old.
3. JJ Plumley has won three straight DL Pale Ale's and been to four straight All-Star games so when the 30 year old is 2-3 with a 4.26 ERA and 1.26 WHIP people are starting to ask questions. Plumley has insisted he's 100% healthy and his every other game issues seem to confirm that. In his last five starts he went 6.2 IP and gave up 6 ER, 6.1 IP and 0 ER, 5.1 IP and 5 ER, 7.0 IP and 2 ER, then finally 6.2 IP and 6 ER.
4. As the 2038 BLB draft inches closer we have the 'feeder' leagues in full playoff mode. In HS only four teams remain as Gulfport, Seton Hall, Deer Park and Bishop Gorman remain. Both series are tied 1-1. In the CCBL we have Bourne battling Orleans and Cotuit taking on Harwich. Orleans and Cotuit lead their series 1-0. Finally in the NCAA the Sweet 16 kicks off tomorrow. Pacific at 32-16 is the favorite to win it all with a three man playoff staff of Cade Hogan (4-0, 1.46 ERA), Gabriel Baugh (4-2, 4.30 ERA) and Evan Guzman (5-1, 3.81 ERA). Don't count out Rice though who did just enough at the end of the season to make the playoffs and features a 1-2 rotation of Christian Vines and Cole Stone.
5.The BLB standings are a little tilted to start the season. The Lager has four teams at .500 or better. The Stout has four teams at .500 or better, the Bock has four teams at .500 or better. The Ale has one team above .500 with Pittsburgh and Pawtucket tied for second at 17-23. Get it together Ale!
