Back by popular demand, the assistant editor of the DK once again sits down with the BLB’s George W. Bush to take a look at this year’s draft. The following picks do not represent the DK, and are the views of Bush, and him alone.
1. Syracuse – SP Christian Vines
Syracuse has a lot or organizational depth at starting pitcher as they already as they already have Phil Curry (2), Tyler Girard (11), and Rayburn Michel (47) inside of OSA’s top 50. They seem however primed to still take the Rice power pitcher who has scouts believe will be a shorter version of Willie Fajardo!
2. Denver – C Lou Miller
Although Denver is currently riding a hot streak at the BLB level, they are picking #2 for the second year in a row. They have restocked their starting pitching heavily in the last few drafts and this year go away from arms for the first position player taken in the draft as they select the top catcher available to fill a glaring need in their minor league system!
3. Philadelphia – SP Wes Smart
The rebuild is going a little slower than Freedom fans have hoped, but with a system stocked with outfielders due to the deft trading of GM Mike, the Freedom will certainly be pleased with the #2 pitcher in the draft. The Louisiana prospect will be looking to anchor the big club within 2 years, as scouts believe that he is almost fully developed and dominating college already!
4. Philadelphia– SP Saul Wang
Unable to find a willing trading partner, the Freedom double down by taking another starting pitcher. At 20 years old Wang is almost fully developed and already possesses a dominating fastball. It’d be hard for Freedom fans not to be excited about a one-two punch of Smart and Wang striking fear into opposing IL lineups for the entirety of the 2040s!
5. Phoenix – CF Kyle Olmstead (via Baltimore)
We have our first trade as Phoenix moves up 3 spots by trading 1.8 and 2.8 to grab the player at the top of their board. Their system is already well with FIVE starting pitchers in OSA’s top 100, so they make a move to draft the corner outfielder from Texas, who is a five-tool superstar. Once he hits the big leagues, Olmstead will become the face of the Roadrunners for years to come!
6. Montreal – SP Cole Stone
Montreal has the current #1 system and looks to add to their bevy of riches by selecting the hard thrower from Rice. He may end up a as reliever, but if this lottery ticket develops his third pitch, Stone may end up being the steal of the draft for a team that already three prospects (Capps SS, Neal 3B, and Marmol CF) in the top 30 hitters according to OSA!
7. Miami – SP Bailey Bolger
Long respected as a GM for his development of the pitching and defence model that predicates GM thinking the BLB, GM Shark hits a home run with Bolger in the 7th spot. The Sharks end up with the pitcher that OSA believes has potential stuff that is off the charts and three elite pitches!
8. Seattle – Payton Marotta (via Baltimore via Phoenix)
We have our second trade as Seattle moves up a whopping 12 spots by trading 1.20, 2.20, and 2.24. In a shocking move, Seattle’s GM Pat moves up to take the top high school pitcher in the nation in Marotta. Seven years after hitting the jackpot with Beehn, the Pilots again grab a two-way player that is certain to rocket up the OSA boards based on his elite stuff and three plus pitches. Pilots fans can’t wait to see Beehn 2.0 in Seattle in 5-7 years!
9. Pawtucket – SP Brice Daniels
The Patriots boast a system that has many needs, with starting pitching being perhaps its most glaring. Lucky for them, Daniels is somehow still around at the ninth pick. Looking past what has been an injury plagued season, the Pawtucket brass is counting on a scouting report that shows four pitch potential and a 101-mph fastball!
10. Los Angeles – LF Zander Howard
The Dinos have a well-rounded system without many glaring needs so choose to go with the wild card from Jackson High School. Although he appears headed to be a 1B/LF, the power potential has Dino fans dreaming for a power hitter the likes they haven’t seen since the early days of the BLB in Hyundai!
11. New Orleans – CF Daryl Walken
The Voodoo have the #2 system in the BLB, but are devoid of high end OF talent, so in a pitching heavy draft, they opt for the 17-year-old from Northwestern high school. A centre fielder in high school, Walken likely makes the move to RF, and becomes a dual threat in the field and at the plate for the Voodoo throughout the next decade!
12. Windy City – CL Corey Galindo
The Blues have a top system, but one that is devoid of high-end pitching talent at the back of the bullpen, so they move to take the top reliever on the board. Galindo possesses a 100-mph fastball and has been striking TWO batters per inning in college. Almost fully developed, he could be closing out Windy City games inside of two seasons.
13. Toronto – SP Shawn Allison
For the first time since taking Dave Brant, the Canadians grab a starting pitcher in the first round. A minor league system that has virtually no SP talent gets a huge boost with a college flame thrower with 80 stamina and four, potentially plus pitches. Toronto fans are hoping this may Toronto’s new Johnny McDade!
14. New York – SP Isaac Lawson
The Knights have one of the better systems in the BLB, but it is very pitcher intensive. With that in mind, they once again, go with previous draft strategies and grab the top pitcher left on their board. The hard throwing Lawson has three plus pitches and looks to add to the embarrassing minor league pitching riches of New York fans!
15. Hartford – 1B Chaz Welliver
Boasting one of the worst systems in the BLB, the Whalers choose to go with high impact offence at 1B. Welliver has torched high school pitchers for three seasons, and although a long development road lies ahead, Whaler fans are ecstatic to project what he will look like hitting majestic home runs in the future!
16. Indianapolis – 1B Adrian Gramling (via Pittsburgh)
We have our third trade, as Indianapolis moves up three spots by trading 1.19 and 3.19 to grab the top offensive player on their board. With little upper tier talent for a team that is always playoff ready, this development project is the perfect fit to be ready for the BLB in 5-7 years.
17. Batavia – CF Brian Wallace
Batavia’s system boasts a fine collection of young pitching talent, but is very thin in the outfield. With that in mind, the Red Jackets select the Chatham centrefielder who has the potential to be a prototypical his impact leadoff outfielder that their minor league system is lacking.
18. Wilmington – CL Aaric Matsuno
Another system that boasts great offensive firepower in their minor leagues goes for a shutdown college reliever with this pick. Matsuno has dominated college batters with 100 mph stuff to the tune of TWO strikeouts per inning. It’s hard not to envision him closing out Plumley wins for the next ten years!
19. Pittsburgh – CL Dustin Morse (from Indianapolis trade)
The last of the truly elite closers goes off the board as the Millers select the Woodstock high school product that already possesses a 96-mph fastball. Although only 17, his work ethic and potential are off the chart. A fine investment this late in the first round!
20. Baltimore – LF Vince Griffiths (from Seattle trade)
After loading up on picks in previous trades the Bulldogs make their first pick. It appears to be another in a long line of great Bulldog power hitters, as they go with Yarmouth LF, Griffiths. He appears to be only average with the glove, but scouts drool over his power potential and his already impressive 22 home runs in 35 games this season!
21. Phoenix – CL Skylar Dalton
Continuing their building of bullpen arms from the last draft, young GM, GoRpn selects the Longhorn closer. His fastball curveball combination and top end velocity could see him in the pros in just two short seasons, just as the young Roadrunners are ready to take the next step in the Bock division!
22. California – SP Nelly Cocio (via Syracuse)
We have our fourth trade as California packages 2.21, 2.23, and 3.21 to stun Bats GM LiquidCrash and take the top player on their board for the second year in a row. Cocio is a prototypical Bats fireballer and Kodiak GM PaulECee excitedly makes this pick in a last second trade to stoke the fires of discontent between the two teams that came to a head as part of last season’s stunning 7 game Bats miracle!
23. Washington – SP Grant Garrison
Smarting from the aforementioned big trade, Washington moves onto plan B, and selects Duke SP Garrison, who many scouts feel may be the dark horse player in the draft. With slight improvement in his control to go with big league stuff and three elite pitches, the young SP looks to make a major impact in the BLB in the near future!
24. Carolina – No One
In a stunning move, GM FSquid actually chooses not to make his first-round selection. In a stunning post on Slack, he verbally berates every other GM and professes to have such a strong Tobs team moving forward that in order to give them a challenge he is intentionally punting this year’s first round pick. Ballsy move, that just may work!
It turns out the last pick was a computer glitch, and apparently the Tobs selected SP, Sean Phillips from Yarmouth. His stats are mediocre, but apparently the Tobs believe in his potential, which appears to be off the charts!
As in all cases of media works, the DK accepts no responsibility for errors that may have resulted from poorly reported facts at press time!
