Performance of the Week
P Dave Theisen - We've talked about Dave before and after a rough 2036 he's rebounded nicely to say the least. On August 27th against Phoenix he turned in the 5th best pitching performance of the season when he went 8 innings, allowed no runs, and struck out 11 while not walking a single batter. The Bats won 3-0 and Theisen is now 15-4 with a 3.16 ERA and 1.13 WHIP in 26 starts.
Injury of the Week
1B Dusty Bailey - The 27 year old had two great season in Baltimore in 2033 and 2034 and was even an All-Star the later of those two. He lost his swing and managements confidence though in 2035 and played in the minors before getting called back up full time this season. In 107 games he was hitting .261/.355/.445 with 19 HR's and 47 RBI's, but sadly on August 30th he tore his calf muscle running the bases and will miss the rest of the year.
Prospect of the Week
P Satchel 'Crayon' Ramirez - The title for only closer on the list belongs to 'Crayon' who was an IAFA from Chili and signed by Miami back in 2033. He's currently #30 on the top prospect rankings and is 6-5 with 29 saves and a 2.01 ERA in 49 games for the Sharks rookie league team. Scouts say he's extremely intelligent, has three solid pitches, can hit almost 100 mph on the radar gun, and has the stamina to go all night long.
Five Things We Think We Think
1.Syracuse and Toronto put on quite a show for their fans on August 28th when they combined for 21 runs and six home runs. In the back and forth game Toronto's Dan McAlear hit a two run shot in the bottom of the 8th to put the Canadians up 10-6 and all but assure victory. Syracuse though rallied and managed to load the bases in the 9th and with two outs Dave Litchford hit his fourth home run of the season, a grand slam, to tie the game. It didn't last long though as the Toronto's first batter, Ahmed Salter turned on a 3-2 pitch from T.J. Gervasi and sent it over the left field wall to give them the walk off 11-10 victory.
2.Speaking of Toronto their manager Danny Hernandez was just given a two year contract extension worth reportedly somewhere in the $2,000,000 a year range. A former centerfielder who was drafted by Los Alamos back in 2005, he played in 210 career games with both DVS and LAD and broke into managing in 2025. Hernandez took over Toronto in 2034, a year after managing the Red Jackets to the playoffs, and has increased the Canadians win total every season. Toronto is on pace to make the playoffs for the first time in over a decade and their 75 wins ties last years mark and we're not even to September yet.
3. The playoff teams for the DL are as good as locked while the IL has been narrowed down to seven teams with New York doing everything they can to stay in the hunt. What isn't decided is the division winners. In the Ale, Hartford leads Pittsburgh by 1.5 and Wilmington by 2.5 games. In the Lager, SDR leads Indy by 3 and Toronto by 3.5 games. In the Stout, Carolina leads Washington by 1.5 games. In the Bock, California leads Seattle by 1.5 games. Going into September we can't remember the last time we had four division races so close. Hartford against Pittsburgh and California against Seattle are done for the regular season, but all the other close races still have season series left to complete. It's going to be a fun September.
4. The Snappers have 30 games to go, and have to win 10 in order not to tie the California Wildfire for most futile season in BLB history. After winning four total games in June and July combined they have won eight in August with a chance to go for nine tonight at Baltimore. It doesn't look good though for September as their remaining opponents record is .530, third highest in the BLB behind Philly and Miami.
5. Per the league office rosters were expanded to 28 a day early as September baseball kicks off with interleague match-ups. Some interesting series this week are Wilmington at Seattle, Indianapolis at Carolina, Seattle at Toronto, and Washington at Indianapolis. These will be the last interleague series of the regular season as the next time a team from the Domestic and Import do battle will be the 2037 Brewmasters Cup.
