The Rum Runners make some huge trades, go 6-1 on the week, and promptly take over the top spot in the Power Rankings. Goodness what a week as they are now 46-27 and have a 3.5 game lead in the Lager. The other big weeks belonged to Washington who went 6-1 while Toronto and Miami each went 5-2. The Bats lead the Stout by 5.5 games while the Canadians are 38-34 and currently have a 98.8% of making the playoffs. The last time Toronto made the playoffs...2026! On the other side of life Syracuse traded away their franchise player, went 0-7, and are expecting only a crowd of 10,000 at tonight's first home game since the blockbuster.

Performance of the Week
2B Jimmy Brabec - The Red Jackets have been oddly quiet this season press wise as they sit at 38-33 and 3rd in the Stout behind Washington and Carolina. Ian James continues to hit, Marco Taylor continues to launch home runs, and Brabec continues to be one of the better fielders in the league. On June 19th against Phoenix his bat got hot too as he tallied up three hits, two home runs, drove in six, and scored three times in a 14-8 Batavia victory.
Injury of the Week
CF Ed Gainer - With no one going down for significant time we turn our eye towards Gainer who actually become a local hero on June 18th. After playing center field during a 6-2 victory over New Orleans he headed home to get some sleep before the following days game. Upon arriving in his neighborhood he saw smoke coming from a neighbors house. Flames soon followed and he called 911 and sprung into action. Banging so hard on the front door and windows that he hurt his hand, he was able to wake up the entire family and help get them out safely just as the fire department arrived. He was taken to the hospital for precautions and an x-ray showed no break in his hand. Gainer declined all interview requests but the family is reportedly extremely grateful and will be staying at a nearby relatives house while renovations are done.
Prospect of the Week
SS Trevon 'Hoover' Olvera - It's not often a newly drafted player appears in the top ten of the Top 100 prospects but Olvera came in hot at #2! The first overall pick has a ton of potential at the plate and could play a plethora of infield or outfield positions. Trevon, who is only 20 years old and born in Venezuela, is already popular with the locals and could be the spark that turns the Patriots franchise around.
Five Things We Think We Think
1. The Seth Blankenship saga is over. Syracuse shipped him off to Santo Domingo along with Dave Esterline, Dave Taylor, and Jimmy Wright. They received several players and picks back but the word locally is the fan base is demoralized. Picked 2nd overall in 2031 he has become one of, if not the top player in the BLB at only 26 years old. The Snappers have now lost 13 in a row, and are 1-18 in June as this team was already suffering from rumors before the trade was even made. This officially shuts the championship window the Snappers had the last few seasons when they won 103 games in 2035 and 94 games last season. The rebuild is on.
2. With the official number of players allowed on Rookie League teams raised to 45 the 2037 draft is officially over. The top batter as mentioned was Olvera who debuted at #2 in the Top Prospects list while the top pitcher was Seth Cobb who debuted at #7. Picked 1.8 by New Orleans he's joined by #11 Bennett 'Pepi' Senn who was picked 1.10 by Hartford. Montreal leads all teams with five pitchers in the Top 100 while Windy City leads all with five hitters in the Top 100.
3. Johnny Swope just turned 35 a few months ago and is currently sitting at 519 career home runs. He's on pace to reach around 540 this season, putting him 72 behind all-time leader Jamie O'Hearn. His current .267 average is the lowest of his career but if he plays a few more season hitting 613 total home runs to pass O'Hearn is not out of the question. He's averaged 44 home runs a season for the past eight years which puts him second during that time period...can you name the other top five?
Spoiler
4. Someone who won't be breaking any record is Dylan Owens. The 40 year old has 12 at bats this season for Toronto and has been reduced to a backup at first base and pinch hitter. At 3273 career hits he has a chance to pass Mike Morla this season but that would only put him 7th all-time. It looks like Steve Suarez' record of 3546 hits is safe as 36 year old Geoff Dail is the next active player and has only has 2574.
5. The Denver BC have 25 wins with a payroll of $8,810,600. The next lowest is Montreal who has 31 wins with a $61,196,850 payroll. Talk about bang for your buck!
