The Year of the Whalers continue as they go 5-1 on the week which included a three game sweep of Miami. The Voodoo though had the best week as they went 6-1 while Washington came in third with a 5-2 week. Hartford leads the Ale by 5.5 games, New Orleans is now above .500 and two back in the Lager, while the Bats are 17-10 and tied with New York for the Stout lead. On the flip side Windy City and Indy had rough weeks as they went 0-6. So much baseball to be played though!

Performance of the Week
P Dave Short - On May 2nd against Seattle he went 8 innings, allowed three hits, stuck out six, and walked two in a 3-0 Knights victory. The former Guide and Patriot was traded to New York in 2035 and is 2-2 with a 1.29 ERA and 0.97 WHIP so far this season.
Injury of the Week
CF Zack Jackson - He went down with a strained hamstring on April 28th running the bases and will miss several months. The oft-injured Jackson is one of the best fielding center fielders of all time. Unfortunately he gets banged up a lot and the 31 year old might already be on the downhill part of his career.
Prospect of the Week
P Sean Andrews - The 20 year old closer for the Hurricanes has pitched in 11 games, recorded seven saves, struck out 21 and put up a 0.71 ERA and 0.79 WHIP. He throws up to 100 mph and at 6'7" he is an intimidating presence on the mound to say the least. Coaches rave about his work ethic and scouts think he has the potential to be an eventually BLB All-Star.
Five Things We Think We Think
1. Phoenix is off and running...literally...this season. They stole 10 bases this last week and now have 32 on the season, tops in the BLB. Dave Cohen is responsible for 12 of those and is currently on pace to reach the 70+ mark. He's never stolen more than 26 bases but it looks like that will be shattered by June. For those that don't remember the 28 year old was the 1st overall pick of the 2029 draft out of Oregon State
2. Speaking of drafts does anyone know the latest drafted player to make the Hall of Fame? If you guessed 2016 with Fred Frederick you would be correct. The Batavia slugger only played for 10 seasons but made it to six All-Star games, won the Designated Driver five times, and was the 2019 Stout Slugger. He was elected to the HoF in 2032. Some other players that will more than likely grace his presence from that class: Mike Morla, Matt Healey, Dave Ingram, and AJ Ingle.
3. Speaking of Hall of Fame and drafts...who were some of the later picks in the draft who have been selected to the BLB Hall of Fame? Tom Lewis was drafted by Wilmington with the 20th pick in the 4th round of the 2014 draft. Joe Rojas was taken with the last pick of the 7th round in the 1985 draft by Maine. R.J. Curtis was selected by Sin City with the 17th pick of the 6th round in the 1989 draft. Raulo Gutiérrez was taken by Maine with the last pick of the 6th round in the 1987 draft.
4. The High School regular season comes to a close this week while the NCAA and CCBL have two weeks to go. In HS only the Carroll Dragons have secured a division title while three other teams have earned playoff spots. One team that won't see the postseason are the TC Robinson Red Claws. They started out the season 16-7 before losing their 15th straight game this past Saturday. In the college ranks the Texas A&M Aggies are the only postseason bound team so far as their 33-6 record is on pace to break the record for wins held by the 2003 Florida State Seminoles who won 40 games and the NCAA title. Meanwhile in the CCBL no one has clinched a playoff spot as 10 of the 12 teams still have a shot for the Cape Cup.
5. The Rookie League kicked off this past week on Friday as teams from around the country showcased their young stars. The BLB draft takes place June 16th and the soonest the drafted players will be able to play is Monday, June 22nd. That means the current players on the RL rosters will have around 35 games to show their stuff before cuts take place. It's now or never for a few young men.
