The Los Angeles Dinos are the cream of the crop as they rise to the top with sweeps of Miami and Montreal and a 6-0 week. Well almost the top...it appears the Hartford Whalers ascended to the top spot after going 5-1. They now lead the Ale by 1.5 games as their magic number is down to 149. Windy City also went 5-1 as they and the aforementioned Dinos share the Bock lead. Meanwhile the party is over in Toronto (at least for this week) as the Canadians went 0-6. They were joined in their misery by Montreal and Syracuse who went 1-5.

Performance of the Week
P Ian Borchert - The free agent to be is playing for a new contract (or trade out of town) and helped his cause with an eight inning, three hit, five K performance against New York on April 19th. The Millers won 3-2 and Borchert moved to 1-2 with a 6.00 ERA and 1.53 WHIP on the year.
Injury of the Week
CF Jordan 'Rascal' Reeves - On April 13th against Toronto 'Rascal' tried to break up a double play in the 4th and came up limping after being thrown out at second. He left the game and an MRI showed he had torn his meniscus. The 24 year old was hitting .469/.564/.625 but will be sidelined for up to four months. He missed six weeks with a torn hamstring in 2035 but played in 151 games last season hitting .322/.391/.503 with 13 HR's and 51 RBI's.
Prospect of the Week
P Bennett 'Pepi' Senn - Big 'Pepi' as his teammates call him was 3-0 with a 1.45 ERA before having elbow issues on April 11th which shut him down for the season. The 19 year old is a two time NCAA All-Star who is a potential top ten pick in the upcoming draft. Measuring in at 6'7, 210 pounds and blessed with high intelligence he is a natural charmer whom the media and Vegas fans have come to love.
Five Things We Think We Think
1. Finally the great one has returned to...California! The Kodiaks made the biggest splash this week as they signed free agent Turell 'Two Ton' Morris to a one year/$8.5 million dollar contract. The 34 year old had been sitting at home in Boston the entire off-season just waiting for his agent to call. How one of the greatest sluggers in BLB history lasted this long no one is quite sure, but the California fans are ecstatic as reports of ticket sales have skyrocketed. This will be his 10th season in the league and over his career he's hitting .295/.386/.581 with 436 HR's and 1021 RBI's.
2. In other FA news the Toronto Canadians signed Jaime 'Toro' Rush to a two year/$8.8 million dollar deal while the Pittsburgh Millers signed Dave 'Cabfare' Davidson to a one year/$6 million dollar deal. The 32 year old Rush, who is a 4x All-Star and has a lifetime average of .342, is an absolute steal for $3 million this season.
3. Hartford has been hot coming out the game and are being led by 26 year old Tony Chieregati who is leading the DL in average, home runs, and RBI's. He is almost halfway to his HR total of last season (14) and just won his first DL Player of the Week award in almost two seasons. On April 14th he reached first in the bottom of the 11th on an error to load them up as the Whalers found themselves down 7-6 to Baltimore. Ron 'Vampire' Hutchison then hit a sac fly to tie it before Baltimore backup catcher Quadir Jones tried to pick Chieregati off at first, threw the ball into right field, and allowed the Whalers to trot the winning run home.
4. Teams will be shuffling around their minor leagues this week as the AAA, AA, and A season all kick off. The 120 game schedules were stretched out by two weeks this off-season as AAA will now end September 12th and AA and A will end September 10th. Three, three and then a five game championship series will then determine the winner and Horizon, Lautering, and Bush champions.
5. Some possibly milestones to look for this season: Johnny Swope reaching 550 HR's, Ron Hutchison reaching 400 HR's and 1000 RBI's, AJ Ingle reaching 650 saves, Ron Snider reaching 500 HR's, and Dave Tibbs and Zach Bradley reaching 1000 RBI's.
