  • The 2036 Daily Keg - The Brewski's

    (AP)

The 2036 season is over and congratulations are in order for the California Kodiaks. Their GM was able to bring home the first title for California since the 1987 season, this time by beating the Pittsburgh Millers four games to three in the Brewmasters. After going 98-64 and winning the Stout in the regular season they defeated the Washington Bats 4-1 in the Divisional Series and took down the Carolina Tobs 4-1 in the ILCS before advancing to the Brewmasters. Led by Stout Slugger candidate Johnny 'Big Stick' Swope on offense and Tony Ramos and Kevin Alston on the mound we tip our caps to the 2036 BLB champions!

    The Brewski's

The Daily Keg is excited to announce the 7th annual Brewski Awards show. After pouring over the season the selection committee has announced the the winners for the following awards, some serious...some not so serious. So without further delay here we go.

    Player of the Year

1B Johnny 'Big Stick' Swope, CAL - When you've won the award five out of seven years you might be the most dominant hitter in the BLB history. Once again Swope, at age 34, dominated the BLB pitching he came across by hitting .344/.428/.696 with 48 HR's and 129 RBI's. It was his second best season all-time only behind his amazing 2030 campaign when he ended up with a 11.3 WAR.

2030 winner: 3B Johnny 'Big Stick' Swope, SEA
2031 winner: 1B Turell 'Two Ton' Morris, MAI
2032 winner: 3B Johnny 'Big Stick' Swope, SEA
2033 winner: C Ian James, SDR
2034 winner: 1B Johnny 'Big Stick' Swope, SEA
2035 winner: 1B Johnny 'Big Stick' Swope, CAL

    Hitter of the Year

CF Rory Elia, CAR - He played in 157 games after logging only 70 last year and it showed when he led the BLB with 56 home runs and 149 RBI's. He also managed to hit .322/.381/.656 while scoring 131 runs, tied with Batavia's Marco Taylor for the league lead.

2030 winner: 1B Turell 'Two Ton' Morris, MAI
2031 winner: RF Ron 'Vampire' Hutchison, HAR
2032 winner: 1B Jermaine Williams, IND

2034 winner: LF Fred Falloon, IND
2035 winner: DH Ron 'Vampire' Hutchison, HAR

    Pitcher of the Year

P J.J. Plumley, WIL - Like 'Big Stick' who has been the most dominant hitter over the past decade, we look at Plumley as being that same force but on the mound. This season he was 15-5 with a 2.48 ERA and 0.99 WHIP. He also continues to turn it up late in the season as he helped lead the Clowns to a 37-17 record over August and September by going 7-1 with a 2.10 ERA.

    2030 winner: Manabu Hamada, DEN
    2031 winner: Manabu Hamada, DEN
    2032 winner: Noel Graham, MAI
2033 winner: Pat 'Baja' Arballo, WAS
    2034 winner: JJ Plumley, WIL
    2035 winner: JJ Plumley, WIL

    Rookie of the Year

3B Dawson 'Wedge' Davis, WC - The 22 year old was the 6th overall pick in the 2031 draft and exploded onto the BLB scene this year by playing in 157 games and hitting .275/.338/.473 with 30 HR's and 107 RBI's. He also started 156 games at third and posted a +1.4 ZR.

2030 winner: 1B Pat Walton, HAR
2031 winner: 2B Alex Arana, SDR
2032 winner: 1B Dave Perry, PIT
2033 winner: 2B Tom Martin, NYK
2034 winner: CF Rory Elia, CAR
2035 winner: RF Robert 'Stretch' Jessee
    __________________________________________________

    All-State Hands Award
(Given to the player with the most total chances and no errors...who doesn't play primarily first base)

CF Ian 'Viper' Lisch, NO - Last year it was his teammate Mat Weir but this season 'Viper' played all three outfield positions, had 336 total chances, and recorded zero errors while having a combined ZR of +2.2.

2030 winner: RF Dusty Janson, DEN
2031 winner: LF Jamie Hendon, NY
2032 winner: CF Gil Banda, SEA
2033 winner: CF Tom White, SDR
2034 winner: RF Donnie Wilson, MON
2035 winner: CF Mat Weir, NO

    Army Ranger Sniper Award
(Given to the catcher with the highest runner thrown out percentage with a minimum of 30 attempts)

C Sean Covington, SYR - The 33 year old still had a cannon for an arm as 88 runners tried to test him and he gunned down 33 of them for a 37.5 RTO%. He was also named to his second career All-Star game and hit .318/.363/.458 with 11 HR's and 53 RBI's.

2030 winner: C Micah Gordon, WIL
2031 winner: C Ian 'Pickles' James, SDR
2032 winner: C Landon McClelland, PHI
2033 winner: C Tristan Logan, SEA
2034 winner: C Dusty Akkerman, PAW
2035 winner: C Micah Gordon, PIT

    Frank Abagnale, Jr Award
    (
Given to the player who stole at least 20 bases and was caught the least)

CF Marcos Savage, LAD - At only 26 years old he's a rising speedster with some of the best base-running instincts in the BLB. He swiped 31 bases in 34 attempts for a 91.2% success rate, the highest in the BLB. This was his second full season in the BLB and he also started 113 games in center and had a +1.2 ZR.

2030 winner: CF Pat Welch, BAT
2031 winner: LF Akiyuki Kimura, MAI
2032 winner: RF R.J. Kapper, PIT
2033 winner: RF R.J. Kapper, PIT
2034 winner: RF R.J. Kapper, PIT
2035 winner: CF Seth Blankenship, SYR

    Ludacris Award
    (
Given to the player who got hit with the most pitches)

RF Tony Chieregati, HAR - Goodness as Tony took 24 balls to the body this season, the most in the last decade for any BLB player. In his third season he went from 13 in his rookie year to 17 last season to 24. Can he someday break the record of 30 held by Don O'Finegan and Robert Abbott?

2030 winner: 1B Geoff 'Mr. Reliable' Dail, MIA
2031 winner: 2B Dave 'Bulldog' Bickford, NY
2032 winner: 2B Tristan Hagen, HAR

2034 winner: LF Benny Tatsuno, PIT
2035 winner: 2B Hideki Nakayama, MAI

    Broadside of the Barn Award
(Given to the player with the highest strikeouts per plate appearance)

1B Tommy Spielman, LAD - In a swing for the fences season Spielman was long ball or bust as he hit .220/.279/.458 with 30 HR's, but also struck out 160 times for a SO% of 31.1. Sadly his philosophy of 'chicks dig the long ball' is wearing thin on the Dinos front office.

2030 winner: LF Sayid bin Sariyah, LAD
2031 winner: C Sean Gallion, SYR
2032 winner: 1B Tom Lewis, MAI
2033 winner: C Jaime 'Dodo' Bushnell, CAR
2034 winner: 1B Dave Schaefer, NYK
2035 winner: C Jaden Stills, MAI

Swing For Between the Infielders Award
(Given to the player with the most hits but no home runs)

2B Ricky 'Heartthrob' Figueroa, WC - After going back to back in 2030 and 2031 he goes back to back again in 2035 and 2036. This season he had only 83 hits but no one had more without putting one over the fence. Gil Porter recorded 210 hits but managed to hit one out otherwise 'Heartthrob' would have been dethroned.

2030 winner: 2B Ricky 'Heartthrob' Figueroa, DEN
2031 winner: 2B Ricky 'Heartthrob' Figueroa, DEN
2032 winner: 3B Ron Morgan, SDR
2033 winner: RF Tom Lyon, PHO
2034 winner: C Tony Solorio, HAR
2035 winner: 2B Ricky 'Heartthrob' Figueroa, WC

    Dickey's BBQ Beans Award
(Given to the pitcher who hits the most batters)

P Sheng 'Admiral' Jong, SDR - The 'Admiral' beaned 17 batters this year enroute to a season in which he was 17-7 with a 3.12 ERA and finished 2nd in the DL Pale Ale award voting. Since coming over from Denver via trade four seasons ago he's gone 65-26 with a 2.74 ERA and become one of the most intimidating pitchers in the game. He has absolutely no fear when it comes to knocking someone into the dirt if they crowd the plate.

2030 winner: P Nate Bettis, PHO
2031 winner: P Pat Burgess, PIT
2032 winner: P Robby 'Bruiser' McEvoy, BAL
2033 winner: P Jarrod Peacock, PHI
2034 winner: P Robby 'Bruiser' McEvoy, BAL
2035 winner: P Erik Martin, NYK

    The Milton Swingline Stapler Award
(The player who earned a check without deserving one)

SS Pat Pierce, CAR - Mr. Pierce enjoyed payday as he raked in a cool $23,000,000 during the 2036 season. He also hit .217/.290/.449 and posted a -2.5 WAR, mostly due to the fact that he played 99 games at short stop and had a -32.6 Z!. He did hit 26 home runs though to lesson the tears of owner Dave Cantu when he had to sign the check each week.

2030 winner: P Jerrod Blick, TOR
2031 winner: P Jerrod Blick, TOR
2032 winner: 1B Dylan Owens, TOR
2033 winner: 3B Erik Redding, CAL
2034 winner: 1B Dylan Owens, TOR
    2035 winner: 1B Joy-shan Guo, BAT

I'm guessing this isn't serious... I have long thought Morla (man crush, I know) was the greatest offensive player the BLB had created, but I think it's getting to look more and more like Swope might be that player... So, yes, Hall of Famer... Although, he does play third, and not many of them ever get in!
