The beat writers of the Kodiaks here at the California News are in the process of uncovering a huge story...
Free Agent Johnny Swope is apparently looking into the prospects of playing in the Australian Professional Baseball League. Suitors have been lining up to woo the BLB meg-star as all free agents offers on this side of the ocean seemed to have dried up. The Melbourne Tigers have apparently made a "...substantial offer. One that is commensurate with a player of Johnny's Swope's immense talent." according to Swope's agent at Boras Corp. The agent went on to say, that he is "disgusted" and "appalled", and even went so far as to hint as possible collusion!
When we reached out for comment, Swope had nothing to say, but his official twitter page had a picture of a Tiger humping a Kodiak bear while simultaneously choking out, what appears to be a pilot. The picture has since been taken down, so we are unable to produce the image here. No word yet if BDub created the image to stick it to his fellow GMs or not.
Kodiak GM, PaulECee, lamented, "We loved Swope, but he just didn't fit financially for us. The home run he hit in game six of the BrewMasters will be on Kodiak highlight reels for ever, but unfortunately after going 'all in' to win last year, it is time to let some kids play."
Former Swope suitor, Pilot GM, Pat McLaughlin wasn't as kind, "He was a playoff bum for us, after he signed the big contract... 'Good luck in Australia mate!'" he was heard to shout as Swope was seen banging on the GMs office door, basically begging to get back into a Pilot uniform.
As far as collusion goes, an unnamed informant at the BLB front offices, believed to be a former Philadelphia GM (although unconfirmed at the time of printing) has confirmed for us that there have indeed been a couple of minor short term deals, and he thinks that Swope is just being greedy!
I'm sure the truth lies somewhere in that muddled mess.
On his career, Swope is hitting 0.310, 505 HR, 1332 RBI, 2 Brewmaster Titles, 11 all star appearance, 8 Designated Driver awards, i DWI, and an astounding SIX Stout Slugger Awards.
Please stay tuned as this story continues to develop!
